The French Davis Acoustics has a very important advantage over its competitors: it develops and creates dynamic heads for specific tasks, and does not select ready-made ones from those available for sale. This allows you to build original systems without overpaying for components, and their share in the total cost of the project when purchased from outside can reach 30%. Well, and a full production cycle at its own factory in France with the most modern equipment means constant control over all processes and, as a result, guarantees the quality of the final product.
Davis Acoustics Courbet №3 is the only bookshelf speaker in the Courbet series. This model, like all other acoustic systems of the company, is completely manufactured at its own plant in France. And this means not only a reduction in the cost of purchasing speakers, but also the ability to design them specifically for certain models. The TW28LD tweeter was created specifically for the Courbet series. The fabric dome with a diameter of 28 mm is impregnated with a damping compound, the reinforced magnetic system has air channels for cooling the voice coil. The rear radiation of the dome is output into a narrowing waveguide, due to which resonant peaks are suppressed.
The tweeter operates in the range of 4 – 25 kHz with minimal nonlinearity. The manufacturer does not say anything about the type and order of crossovers. Bi-wiring connection is provided, in the standard version, solid terminals are connected in pairs with jumpers. The small caliber of the drivers allowed the front panel to be narrowed as much as possible, which is not only good for the sound (early reflections are minimized), but also beautiful – such speakers do not disturb the interior. Fabric grills covering the entire front panel are attached with magnets.
The midrange driver in the Davis Acoustics Courbet No. 3, measuring 13 cm, is traditionally made of Kevlar. This is a versatile material that is so strong that it is used for bulletproof vests, but at the same time very light. The use of such a small driver size allowed us to narrow the front panel of the bookshelf speakers to 17.5 cm, which has a positive effect on both the design and the sound – a narrow front panel minimizes early reflections. The speaker cabinets are made of thick MDF with spacers inside. The front panel is slightly tilted so that both high and low frequencies reach the listener at the same time.
The Davis Acoustics Courbet No. 3 is available in piano black or matte white, and will soon be available in mahogany and dark walnut veneer. The sound is characterized by fast bass, good detail, natural timbres, and a spacious stage. Each instrument, each sound, and every minor element of the overall rich picture are clearly localized in the three-dimensional stage. Like most large-dish tweeter speakers, the Courbet No. 3 creates textured, well-defined virtual images. The long-stroke midrange adds body to them, and the overall sound is driven and dynamic.
