Morel Sopran 622: Compact High-End Stand-Mount Speakers with Big Ambitions

Morel has quietly built a reputation for doing things the hard way – designing and manufacturing its own drivers, obsessing over materials, and tuning by ear as much as by measurement. With the expansion of the Sopran series, that philosophy now reaches its most compact form yet: the Sopran 622 stand-mount loudspeakers.

The Sopran 622 is the smallest model in the Sopran family, but it’s very much cut from the same high-end cloth as its larger siblings. This is a true two-way stand-mount designed for listeners who want reference-level refinement without filling the room with floorstanders.

At the heart of the design are Morel’s own hand-assembled drivers. The bass and midrange duties are handled by a 6-inch carbon-fiber honeycomb cone, a construction chosen for its exceptional stiffness-to-weight ratio. In practice, this means fast transient response, low coloration, and bass that stays tight and articulate even when pushed.

Up top sits Morel’s 1.1-inch Acuflex soft-dome tweeter, a long-standing signature of the brand. It’s engineered to deliver smooth, extended highs without edge or glare, favoring long listening sessions over short-term wow effects. The crossover point is set at 2.2 kHz, allowing the drivers to blend seamlessly and behave like a single coherent source.

The SOPRAN 622 is available in a range of beautifully painted and natural veneer finishes, with several woodgrain and epoxy color combinations.

Built like a high-end instrument

The cabinet itself is far more than a simple wooden box. Inside, CNC-machined internal braces reinforce the structure, dramatically reducing unwanted resonances. The result is a cabinet that stays acoustically quiet, letting the drivers do the talking.

A rear-firing bass reflex port extends low-frequency reach, helping the Sopran 622 dig deeper than its size suggests. With a claimed frequency range down to 30 Hz and a tightly controlled ±1.5 dB window from 45 to 18,000 Hz, these speakers are clearly designed to sound full and balanced even without a subwoofer.

Custom colors are also available, allowing you to tailor the Sopran series to your unique style and taste.

Each speaker weighs in at a substantial 16 kg, which tells you a lot about the build quality before you even press play.

With a nominal 4-ohm impedance and 88 dB sensitivity, the Sopran 622 appreciates a capable amplifier, but it’s not an unreasonable load. Feed it clean power and it rewards you with scale, control, and surprising dynamic headroom.

Power handling is rated at 180 watts RMS and a massive 750 watts peak, which speaks volumes about the robustness of the drivers and motor systems. These speakers aren’t fragile showpieces – they’re built to perform.

They feature proprietary drivers: a 6″ carbon fiber honeycomb cone bass driver and a 1.1″ Acuflex soft-dome tweeter.

Visually, the Sopran 622 is understated but unmistakably premium. Depending on finish, pricing lands between $5,999 and $6,499 per pair, placing it firmly in the high-end stand-mount category. This is not about chasing specs or trends, but about delivering a complete, emotionally engaging listening experience in a compact format.

The Sopran 622 feels like the kind of speaker you buy once and live with for years – the type that disappears into the music, works across genres, and never demands attention for the wrong reasons.
