Elac Baltic EL 100 Brings Wide-Baffle Studio Style Home

Elac Baltic EL 100 wide-baffle speaker with exposed drivers and wood veneer

The Elac Baltic EL 100 celebrates the German company’s centenary with a wide-baffle cabinet, exposed three-driver layout and styling inspired by studio monitors of the 1980s.

Elac has announced the Baltic EL 100, a centenary speaker that draws on the wide-baffle proportions and prominent driver layouts associated with studio monitors from the 1980s. Its warm wood finish, exposed drivers and optional gold-colored fabric cover give the new model a deliberately vintage character.

A centenary design with an archival influence

The Baltic EL 100 arrives as part of Elac’s 100th-anniversary celebrations. Rather than pursuing a visually discreet cabinet, the German manufacturer has looked back to the period in which it entered the loudspeaker market. Models including the EL 55 and EL 105 helped define its range during the 1980s, and the Baltic EL 100 name appears to acknowledge that heritage.

Elac says the speaker is intended to capture the studio-sound atmosphere of that decade. Its broad front panel is central to the concept, recalling an era when substantial loudspeakers and complete hi-fi systems commonly occupied a prominent place in the living room. The result is not presented as a direct recreation of an earlier model, but as a contemporary product shaped by Elac’s own history.

Three visible drivers and a front bass port

The Baltic EL 100 uses a three-driver configuration. A compact tweeter sits above a midrange unit with a large dome diaphragm, while a woofer occupies the lower portion of the baffle. All three drivers remain visible and form an intentional part of the speaker’s appearance rather than being concealed behind a conventional black grille.

A large, forward-facing bass-reflex port is also integrated into the front panel. That positioning reinforces the monitor-inspired visual arrangement, with every major acoustic element presented on the same broad surface.

Elac has not yet disclosed key engineering details such as cabinet dimensions, frequency response or sensitivity. Amplifier-matching information and other specifications also remain to be confirmed, so the announcement currently provides a first look at the design rather than a complete technical overview.

Warm wood and listening-bar aesthetics

The cabinet combines wide proportions with warm wood veneer, creating a look that differs from the narrow floorstanding designs common in modern speaker ranges. The visible cones and dome add to the technical, studio-derived presentation.

For listeners who prefer a more restrained front panel, Elac will offer a gold-colored fabric cover. The textile complements the wood finish while allowing the drivers to be hidden when desired.

Elac connects the Baltic EL 100’s visual identity with Japanese-inspired jazz cafés, listening bars and dedicated music spaces—settings where the sound system is part of the room’s character and attentive listening is the main activity. That positioning places the speaker within the current revival of substantial, furniture-like loudspeakers influenced by classic professional and domestic designs.

Expected availability

The Elac Baltic EL 100 is expected to begin shipping in spring 2027. Further information about its technical specifications and market availability has yet to be released.

Until those details emerge, the confirmed features are its wide-baffle enclosure, three exposed drive units, large front-facing bass-reflex port, wood-veneer finish and available gold-colored fabric cover. Together, those elements establish the Baltic EL 100 as an anniversary model with clear links to Elac’s early loudspeaker history.

With the Baltic EL 100, Elac is using its centenary to revisit the visual language of 1980s studio monitors. Full specifications are still pending, but its broad cabinet, exposed three-way driver arrangement and distinctive fabric cover already give the forthcoming speaker a clearly defined identity.
