Cambridge Audio MXW70: Compact Class D Stereo Power Amplifier

Cambridge Audio has launched a compact stereo power amplifier called the MXW70. The MXW70 joins Cambridge Audio’s half-width MX product line (215mm wide) alongside the popular MXN10 music streamer, making it the perfect partner for a compact stack.

The MXW70 is equipped by Cambridge Audio engineers with Class D amplification using Hypex NCore technology, similar to that used in the Evo 75 and Evo 150 integrated amplifiers with streaming functions. The cabinet is made of all-metal and finished in the familiar Lunar Grey colour. The rated power is 70 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 125 watts into 4 ohms. The channels can be bridged so that the MXW70 can operate as a mono amplifier. In this case, a single MXW70 can deliver 250 watts into 8 ohms. For stereo reproduction, two units are required.

On the rear panel, a single pair of speaker connections can be found. Music signal comes in via XLR or cinch, selectable with a switch. There is also a trigger input to switch the MXW70 on/off with a preamplifier. According to the manufacturer, the new power amplifier delivers high efficiency and a compact form factor without compromising the rich, musical sound quality that Cambridge Audio claims to be known for. Furthermore, the London-based company adds that this power amplifier can easily handle demanding speakers. The specified damping factor is 180.

The MXW70 can be paired with the similarly shaped MXN10 music streamer in pre-amplifier mode or with the DacMagic 200M . The entire system can then be controlled using Cambridge Audio’s StreamMagic app.

The MXW70 measures 57 x 215 x 215 millimeters (H x W x D) and weighs 1.65 kilograms. The specified frequency range is 10 Hz to 30 kHz (at -1 dB level). Channel separation is better than 82 dB.

Cambridge Audio MXW70: price and delivery information

The Cambridge Audio MXW70 power amplifier will be available in the course of the summer for a price of just under 600 euros.
