4x DAC R2R PCM1704U-J
Four copies of the legendary Burr Brown PCM1704U-J DAC chip are responsible for converting digital audio streams. These R2Rs, two per channel in a balanced design, allow the SMSL VMV D3 to exhibit superb sound reproduction that is musical and accurate.
XMOS USB Interface
The D3 DACs are directly connected to the XMOS XU216 16-core USB interface. This allows the USB audio stream to be processed efficiently and quickly. It also supports high-resolution files up to native DSD512 and PCM 32bit 768kHz for unparalleled fidelity.
Accusilicon Clock The clock
system uses two Accusilicon ultra-low phase noise oscillators in a PLL circuit. This design provides extremely low jitter, resulting in very clear sound.
CPLD Altera MAX II
This clock is used in conjunction with the CPLD Altera MAX II, which is responsible for perfect processing and timing of clock signals to ensure the lowest possible jitter.
Low Noise Power Supply
The SMSL VMV D3 power stage is no slouch, incorporating a custom low noise toroidal transformer designed in the UK by Noratel. Thus, the D3 power stage is able to provide a clean and stable electrical signal to all audio circuits of the device.
Digital Filtering
The D3 has a built-in high-quality hardware digital filter SM5847, which is responsible for the oversampling function.
Thought through to the smallest detail
All circuits have been optimized and each component carefully selected. Whether it’s the seven OPA1612 op-amps, specially designed low-noise discrete components, or power regulation, nothing is left to chance to allow the D3 to deliver incredibly rich audio reproduction.
Connectivity
SMSL VMV D3 is equipped with a full range of connectors to adapt to any need and all HiFi systems. It offers a large panel of inputs: USB-B, I2S over HDMI, Toslink optical, coaxial and AES/EBU. There is also a BNC input for using a dedicated external clock generator. The SMSL VMV DAC offers both single-ended RCA and balanced XLR outputs.
