SMSL has equipped the VMV D2 with a 16-core XMOS XU216 second-generation USB signal processor that provides support for high-resolution PCM and DSD decoding. It is capable of decoding up to 32-bit/768 kHz PCM as well as decoding DSD512, providing support for virtually all other audio file formats.

It supports high-resolution wireless transmission codecs such as UAT (Ultra Audio Transmission), which supports up to 24-bit/192 kHz over Bluetooth wireless connection. Other supported wireless codecs include LDAC, AptX HD, AAC, SBC and others to ensure high-quality wireless transmission on the device.
