Shanling has unveiled its inaugural R2R DAC, named the EH2. This device functions as both a digital-to-analog converter and a headphone amplifier, all housed within a compact design. The product is set to be available for purchase in the final month of the current year.
The Shanling EH2 can be described as a traditional DAC, devoid of displays and intricate circuitry. Its aluminum casing is compact, allowing it to fit seamlessly on a table or shelf in any room.
The newly developed module draws on the technology from the PCM1704 model found in the Shanling CD-T300 and HDCD-H24. The engineers have successfully integrated the “classic sound” with modern advancements.
The integrated headphone amplifier utilizes BD139 and BD140 transistors, specifically designed for high-end full-size headphones. It can output a maximum of 4.3 W at 32 ohms through the 4.4 mm balanced output and up to 1.3 W at 32 ohms via the 6.35 mm jack.
Additionally, a circuit featuring RCA and 4.4 mm (line out/pre-out) connectors, based on the OPA1612 chip, has been incorporated to facilitate connections with active speakers or power amplifiers. The price of the new DAC is set at $369.
