Waves Audio announced the release of the new Silk Vocal vocal processor in a letter sent to mailing list subscribers. For a limited time, the plugin can be downloaded for free.
The announcement of the new plugin took place on November 13: the company showed a blurry image of the interface and clarified that during Black Friday the plugin could be downloaded for free. To receive the plugin, users were asked to join a queue by leaving an email address on the product’s promotional page.
The company did not specify what problem the new development would solve. A number of users assumed that we were talking about another auto-tune, but these assumptions did not come true. Waves Audio Silk Vocal is a vocal processor that combines “smart EQ and dynamics processing” to make it easier to mix vocals and place them in the mix.
According to the company, the plugin automatically finds troublesome resonances among 2,000 bands and frequency notches on the spectrum. When a signal arrives at the input, the development analyzes the signal and identifies shortcomings, and also offers options for eliminating problems.
After analyzing the signal, the “smart vocal engine” at the heart of the plugin automatically decides where and when to remove imperfections, while the user decides how much of an effect the effect should have on the sound. According to the developers, the use of Silk Vocal significantly increases the speed and quality of vocal processing, which makes life easier for musicians and sound engineers.
According to the description on the product page , Silk Vocal:

- Eliminates harshness, hum and sibilance in the signal;

It is noted that Silk Vocal is intended for post-processing of vocals. Along with the plugin, users will automatically receive a license for Silk Vocal Live, the second version of the plugin designed for real-time vocal processing.
Users who have provided an email address in advance must log into the Waves Audio website and check their account status to see if the plugin has been added to their account. Everyone else must visit the promotional page with a field to enter an email – the company promises to send a license or add it to your account within 2-4 hours after completing a user application.
