T+A has introduced a new flagship stereo power amplifier, the A 3100 HV, alongside the SDX 3100 HV, a matching streaming preamplifier with integrated digital-to-analog conversion. Together, the two components extend the German manufacturer’s HV platform with revised amplification, expanded streaming support and a signal path designed for high-end two-channel systems.

A 3100 HV Brings a New Flagship Stereo Amplifier

The A 3100 HV succeeds the long-running A 3000 HV and is described by T+A as a substantially revised design rather than a cosmetic update. The company says its engineers made more than 270 changes in developing the new model, while preserving the large-format stereo power-amplifier concept associated with the HV series.

A key addition is a rear-panel-selectable High Current mode, a feature previously associated with the M 40 HV mono amplifier. In this setting, the amplifier remains continuously biased, extending the real Class A operating range to more than 75 watts depending on the connected speaker load. For systems that require greater output, the A 3100 HV also retains a High Power mode rated at 500 watts in Class AB operation.

T+A has also revised the amplifier’s mono configuration. Rather than using a conventional bridged arrangement, which can increase distortion and reduce the minimum supported impedance, the A 3100 HV operates with its outputs in parallel. The intention is to deliver high output in mono use while avoiding some of the compromises typically associated with bridged amplifier designs.

Power Supply and HV Circuit Refinements

Inside the A 3100 HV, T+A has redesigned the power supply around a new toroidal transformer. The transformer is hermetically sealed and enclosed within magnetic shielding, while a 10 mm internal aluminum panel helps protect the audio circuitry from unwanted fields.

Energy storage has also been revised. The amplifier uses twelve new low-ESR capacitors, specified to help the circuit respond quickly to sudden dynamic demands, from large-scale orchestral peaks to heavy low-frequency electronic material.

The broader HV architecture continues to emphasize high-voltage circuit topology, separated voltage and current amplification stages, thermal stability, non-magnetic construction and true Class A operation where applicable. These elements are part of T+A’s established approach to maintaining speed, resolution and channel control within its upper-tier electronics.

SDX 3100 HV Combines Preamp, DAC and Network Player

The SDX 3100 HV is designed as a central control component for a high-end stereo system. It combines a preamplifier, digital-to-analog converter and network streaming client in a solid aluminum chassis, and is intended to pair directly with the new A 3100 HV or other power amplifiers.

At its core is the third generation of T+A’s Audiophile Streaming Architecture, known as ASA G3. The platform supports Amazon Music, Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer and HighRes Audio, along with connection protocols and services including Apple AirPlay, Spotify Connect, Qobuz Connect and Tidal Connect. Roon certification is planned. Native DSD playback from a network source or hard drive is also supported.

Digital conversion is handled through T+A’s Path Separation Technology, which routes DSD and PCM signals through separate processing paths. DSD is processed natively up to DSD 1024 using a True 1-Bit converter, while PCM signals are handled by a Quadruple PCM converter using four 32-bit Burr-Brown chips with eight channels each.

Clocking, Analog Control and Phono Options

For jitter suppression, the SDX 3100 HV uses a masterclock system with two femto crystal oscillators and multi-stage filtering to isolate incoming signals from digital interference. On the analog side, the high-voltage preamplifier section uses a fully symmetrical dual-mono layout, intended to preserve channel separation and dynamic headroom.

The unit also introduces a fully analog tone-control module. Bass and treble can be adjusted without digital signal processing, with control over both level and corner frequency. Separate channel adjustment is available when required.

Vinyl users can add T+A’s HV phono module as a plug-in option for the SDX 3100 HV. Versions are available for both moving-magnet and moving-coil cartridges, allowing the preamplifier to be configured for analog sources as well as digital and streaming playback.

Finishes and Availability

Both the A 3100 HV and SDX 3100 HV will be offered in silver or titanium finishes. Pricing and detailed delivery information have not yet been announced.

With the A 3100 HV focused on revised high-current amplification and the SDX 3100 HV bringing streaming, DAC and analog preamplifier functions into one chassis, T+A is positioning the pair as a new reference-level foundation for its HV electronics lineup.

The new HV components show T+A continuing to develop separate high-end building blocks for listeners who want a traditional power-amplifier and preamplifier architecture with modern network playback built in.
