Luxman D-03R: A timeless CD player crafted for audiophiles

Luxman has unveiled the D-03R, a device that combines a CD transport with a digital to digital converter (DAC) in one unit. This new model includes both digital inputs and outputs, allowing the CD transport to work alongside another DAC, while the DAC can also convert digital signals from an external source. Analog audio signals are output through RCA and XLR connections.

Luxman D-03R

Luxman is marking its 100th anniversary this year. The company has become a staple in the ever-changing audio industry. This renowned manufacturer is introducing the D-03R, a new CD player that merges traditional music playback with contemporary digital technology. This latest model is a natural progression from the successful D-03X and targets audiophiles who wish to enjoy their CD collections with exceptional sound quality, as stated by Luxman.

At the core of the Luxman D-03R is a CD drive mounted on the left side, which is completely shielded from mechanical disturbances by a robust, 3.2-millimeter-thick steel base plate and a housing optimized for resonance. This design aims to achieve vibration-free and stable data reading. Additionally, the entire structure of the device follows the so-called “loopless design,” which, according to the Japanese manufacturer, is designed to avoid internal grounding issues and guarantee interference-free signal processing.

Luxman D-03R: dual DA converter

For the first time, Luxman uses two ROHM BD34352EKV DAC chips operating in dual-mono mode. These high-resolution DAC chips support PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz and DSD up to 22.5 MHz. Full MQA support, for both CDs and digital music signals from a network player, is also part of the concept.

The Luxman D-03R also performs excellently as a digital control center. Besides playing CDs, the D-03R can also process digital music signals from other sources via the USB-B input or the optical or coaxial (RCA) S/PDIF connections. Users can also choose from various filter options to individually adjust the sound characteristics.

Luxman D-03R: Symmetrical analog output stage

The device’s four analog output stages feature a symmetrical design and a power supply equipped with a powerful toroidal transformer. Separate voltage regulators for each component and carefully constructed circuit paths contribute to exceptionally clean signal processing, enabling precise playback with clear channel separation.

The user has access to solid XLR outputs and RCA connections, which are positioned in such a way that even slightly larger high-end plugs can be attached without any problem.
