CrinEar Protocol Max: Dual CS43198 Portable DAC & 600mW Headphone Amp

CrinEar Protocol Max - Dual CS43198 DAC/Headphone Amplifier
CrinEar Protocol Max - Dual CS43198 DAC/Headphone Amplifier

The CrinEar Protocol Max is a new portable DAC and headphone amplifier designed with a focus on sound accuracy and user-friendly customization. It’s the brand’s first model in the source category, embodying headphone tuning expertise in a compact and functional digital-to-analog conversion and amplification device.

CrinEar Protocol Max

The core of the circuit design is comprised of two Cirrus Logic CS43198 DACs, renowned for their transparent and neutral character, and a pair of SG Micro SGM8262-2 operational amplifiers. This configuration ensures a clean, stable signal with ample power reserves—up to 600 mW when connected in a balanced configuration. This is sufficient to confidently drive both sensitive in-ear models and high-impedance full-size headphones. At the same time, noise and distortion levels remain minimal, even at high volumes.

CrinEar Protocol Max

One of the key features of Protocol Max is its sound customization system. The device supports a parametric equalizer, accessible directly from the browser via the Hangout.Audio Graph Tool. Users can create their own frequency curve and save it to the DAC’s internal memory. This means that after the initial setup, there’s no need to have a computer nearby or use an app—the personalized sound signature is preserved when connected to any device.

CrinEar Protocol Max

Two power modes are available for optimized performance. Eco mode reduces power consumption and is suitable for use with sensitive headphones or when using a laptop or smartphone. Boost mode unlocks the amplifier’s full potential, delivering maximum power for demanding applications. Switching between modes is quick and does not require a device restart.

The enclosure is machined from a single piece of aluminum. This not only enhances reliability and environmental resistance but also gives the device a sleek appearance. Its compact form factor makes it easy to take with you, and the lack of an external power supply makes Protocol Max convenient for both desktop and mobile use.

Both a balanced 4.4mm and standard unbalanced 3.5mm output are supported, ensuring compatibility with most modern cables and headphones. The low output impedance makes the device suitable for sensitive IEMs while maintaining control and dynamics.

CrinEar Protocol Max features :
