Beyerdynamic has announced that it has created the DT 990 PRO X headphones specifically for critical listening, especially in professional settings like recording studios.
The designers claim that the DT 990 PRO X provides enhanced flexibility, comfort, and clarity, now incorporating a detachable cable and advanced STELLAR.45 drivers, which reduce impedance and enable the headphones to function more effectively across a broader array of devices.
Additionally, the original 600 Ohm version of the DT 990 PRO continues to be available and has not undergone any modifications.
Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO X: open over-ear headphones
The Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO over-ear open headphones have been a reliable tool in studios since the 1980s, renowned for their detailed sound, reasonable price, exceptional comfort, and durability.
Simultaneously, this model has been in existence for such a long time (with a design that has remained unchanged across various versions) that few people notice when Beyerdynamic introduces an update.
New for 2025, the DT 990 PRO X continues to be tailored for critical listening and editing, while providing enhanced flexibility, comfort, and clarity. The open over-ear DT 990 PRO X builds upon that legacy and elevates it further, featuring what Beyerdynamic refers to as a broader soundstage, making them an ideal match for studio monitors. Additionally, they deliver the precision and clarity that studio professionals expect, allowing them to detect even the most subtle sonic details.
“Many home producers utilize studio monitors for playback and assessment of their mixes,” states Kevin Nietsch, Product Manager at beyerdynamic. “With the DT 990 PRO X, we provide a tool that contemporary studio professionals have not previously possessed. Crafted to highlight minor flaws in the mix that might otherwise be overlooked, the DT 990 PRO X headphones serve as an excellent addition to studio monitors.”
Tailored for modern home studio setups, the DT 990 PRO X boasts an impedance of 48 ohms, allowing compatibility with a variety of playback devices, from high-end equipment to portable options. The included detachable three-meter mini-XLR to 3.5 mm cable (with a 6.35 mm adapter) ensures optimal connection versatility in any setting.
Central to its audio performance is Beyerdynamic’s STELLAR.45 driver system, engineered in Germany, which offers an extensive frequency range from 5 Hz to 40 kHz, providing outstanding resolution, minimal distortion, and remarkable dynamic reproduction.
The DT 990 PRO X features exceptionally soft velour ear cushions and an ergonomically designed headband that alleviates pressure on the crown of your head. Additionally, these headphones are constructed with low-maintenance materials, ensuring their durability for many years ahead.
The Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO X studio headphones are priced at just below $200 and include a mini-XLR to 3.5 mm jack cable, a 3.5 mm to 6.35 mm adapter, and a drawstring carrying case.
