Austria’s Pro-Ject Audio Systems has introduced the Amp Box RS2, a new compact and robust stereo power amplifier. This amplifier features the capability to bridge its two channels for mono operation. A notable design element is the pair of tubes that extend from the top plate. Pro-Ject Audio claims that the new Amp Box RS2 features a reference topology designed for power amplifiers. Each channel incorporates a triode tube of the 6922 (6DJ8) type within the pre-amplifier stage. The Amp Box RS2 is built using discrete components and operates in class AB mode. It is rated at 80 watts per channel at eight ohms and 130 watts at four ohms.
When the channels are bridged, it functions as a mono power amplifier capable of delivering around 350 watts at eight ohms. The designers assert that the Amp Box RS2 effectively merges the benefits of both tube and transistor technologies, providing enhanced reliability, minimal distortion, and high efficiency.
The complete metal casing serves as both a striking visual element and a crucial component for the effective distribution and dissipation of excess heat. This design is offered in either black or silver.
Optional linear power supply Power Box RS2 Amp
A reliable and clean power supply is crucial for all high-fidelity components. While the included power supply provides a solid foundation, Pro-Ject Audio suggests that the optional Power Box RS2 Amp enhances performance even further.
This unit features a substantial toroidal transformer, which offers a greater power reserve compared to the standard power adapter. Additionally, it boasts a total smoothing capacity of 40,000 µF.
The recommended retail price for the Pro-Ject Audio Amp Box RS2 is slightly below $1,800. Additionally, the optional Power Box RS2 Amp power supply is priced at just under $1,000.
