Lampizator Horizon 2 DAC Brings New Technology and an Upgrade Path

Polish high-end audio manufacturer Lampizator has announced the Horizon 2, a tube-based digital-to-analog converter that succeeds the Horizon 360. The new model incorporates technology developed during the creation of the Aphrodite DAC while retaining the established Horizon chassis dimensions, tube complement and output capacitors.

A redesigned analog stage and SuperVolume system

Lampizator says the Horizon 2’s analog stage has been redesigned following four years of development. Its tube configuration uses 6SN7 conversion tubes and KT88 output tubes, accompanied by a tube-rectified power supply.

The DAC also introduces a new implementation of Lampizator’s SuperVolume architecture. This volume-control system includes a bypass function, allowing the Horizon 2 to operate either with its internal level control or in a configuration suited to an external preamplifier.

Despite the internal changes, Lampizator has preserved key elements of the wider Horizon platform. The existing enclosure dimensions, tubes and output capacitors carry over, enabling the new electronics to be fitted to compatible earlier models through a factory conversion program.

Updated conversion platform and user interface

The Horizon 2 uses Lampizator’s firmware-controlled conversion process. Its published specifications list support for PCM data up to 768 kHz and DSD512. The USB implementation also supports DSD512, along with reclocking and optical isolation.

Processing hardware and firmware have been updated, while the previous Nixie display has been replaced by a new front-panel information screen. The revised fascia incorporates four control buttons and works with a new remote control based on the handset developed for the Aphrodite.

Remote functions include phase, modulator, filter and display switching. A memory feature is provided for retaining settings, reducing the need to reconfigure the DAC whenever it is powered up or returned to a particular source.

Digital and analog connectivity

The rear panel provides a broad selection of digital connections, including USB, coaxial S/PDIF over RCA, AES/EBU and TOSLINK. Three i2S inputs using Lampizator’s latest BNC-based digital interface are also included. A Taiko XDMI input can be specified on request.

The Horizon 2 is equipped for analog source handling as well. It provides both RCA and balanced XLR analog inputs, alongside RCA and XLR outputs. A balanced XLR bypass output is included, supporting integration into systems where different signal paths or external volume control arrangements are required.

These connections reflect the Horizon 2’s dual role as both a DAC and a control component. Its analog inputs, SuperVolume architecture and bypass facilities allow it to serve as the central source and level-management device in a suitably configured audio system.

Chassis options and factory upgrades

The Horizon 2 measures 440 mm wide, 550 mm deep and 170 mm high before its exposed tubes are installed. Overall height rises to 290 mm with the tubes fitted, and the unit weighs 33 kg. Power-supply versions are available for 110–115V, 220–230V and 240V AC operation, with specified consumption of 60 VA.

Standard finish choices are Matt Black Hole and Silver Sahara. The removable upper plate surrounding the tubes can be ordered in copper, stainless steel, Black Hole, Silver Sahara or semi-transparent red, with combinations available to personalize the enclosure.

Lampizator designed the Horizon 2 changes for retrofitting to existing Horizon, Horizon 360 and Horizon 360X DACs. The factory program covers the digital engine, analog and preamplifier stages, volume control, input processing, firmware, display, front panel, control buttons and remote handset.

Factory upgrades from earlier Horizon models to the full Horizon 2 specification are expected to begin in November 2026 and will be arranged through Lampizator’s dealer network. The original Horizon 360 is being phased out, while refurbished Horizon 360X units from existing inventory are also expected to become available.

With its revised analog circuitry, updated conversion platform and extensive input selection, the Horizon 2 represents a substantial development of Lampizator’s tube DAC architecture. Just as importantly, the factory upgrade route gives owners of compatible Horizon models a way to adopt the new platform without replacing the entire component.
