Andover Audio has introduced an updated version of its well-received wireless audio system, the SpinBase, enhancing both its design and switching capabilities. The new SpinBase 2 continues to embody the essence of its predecessor, serving as a stand for a vinyl record player and transforming the turntable into a comprehensive stereo audio system.
Renowned for its budget-friendly audio solutions centered around vinyl, Andover Audio offers popular products such as the SpinDeck, SpinBase, and Turntable Music Systems. The SpinBase 2 builds upon the original design by incorporating a marl fabric finish and Andover’s signature control knob. This updated model maintains the original’s blend of convenience, superior sound quality, and user-friendly setup.
Bob Hazelwood, Director of Engineering and Development at Andover, states, “The design of the SpinBase is rooted in our patented IsoGroove technology, which was initially created for our flagship Andover One all-in-one turntable. This cutting-edge technology effectively isolates vibrations, enabling the turntable to be placed directly on the SpinBase without sacrificing sound quality. Our goal is to deliver exceptional, distortion-free audio for vinyl enthusiasts, all within a stylish, contemporary design. Over the last four years, we have gathered valuable feedback from our customers, which has informed the development of the second generation, the SpinBase 2.”
In addition to its vinyl playback capabilities, the SpinBase 2 also incorporates the ability to stream and receive Bluetooth signals, a feature carried over from the previously launched SpinBase MAX. This allows users to utilize the SpinBase 2 as a wireless speaker for their smartphones or to stream music from a vinyl record to wireless headphones.
The SpinBase 2 audio system from Andover Audio is equipped with a line-level analog input, a digital optical input for TV connectivity, and a USB-A port for flash drives. A newly designed remote control simplifies the adjustment of bass and treble levels, while a four-character LED display offers clear feedback on commands. Notably, the display remains hidden behind acoustically transparent fabric when not in use, illuminating only during adjustments. Additionally, the headphone jack has been repositioned to the side panel for enhanced accessibility.
The SpinBase 2 audio system incorporates Andover Audio’s Dual Direct Drive (Bi-amp) amplification technology. This means that each mid/low frequency driver and tweeter is powered by its own dedicated amplifier. Andover Audio asserts that this approach delivers a more vibrant and clearer sound compared to the passive crossovers utilized in the original SpinBase model.
The SpinBase 2 audio system retains the design of its predecessor while offering a 270-degree directivity pattern that enhances the sound stage. This updated model features two oval speakers measuring 1.75″ × 4″, designed with a bass-reflex configuration, along with a pair of 3/4″ silk dome tweeters. The amplifiers deliver a power output of 2 x 20 W for the main drivers and 2 x 15 W for the tweeters. The manufacturer states that the audio system operates within a frequency range of 65 Hz to 20 kHz. Additionally, the Andover Audio SpinBase 2 includes a built-in power supply, streamlining installation by removing the need for an external power transformer.
When paired with the Andover SpinDeck 2 player, the SpinBase 2 forms a user-friendly audio system that is simple to set up. It can also be enhanced with the optional Songbird Series Wi-Fi Streaming Adapter from Andover Audio, which allows users to access high-resolution music streaming services and internet radio.
The Andover Audio SpinBase 2 comes in both white and black finishes and is currently open for pre-order. The manufacturer has indicated that shipping will commence in late November. The suggested retail price for this new product is $349.
