MartinLogan introduces seven next-generation Motion Series speaker systems. The new products incorporate all the main achievements and technologies of Motion, complemented by a modern updated design. It is expected that the new set uses already proven audio components. First of all, these are branded Folded Motion tweeters, which have an extremely low diaphragm mass and, according to the manufacturer, are in many ways superior to conventional dome tweeters. Mid-range and low-frequency speakers are equipped with aluminum cones and more powerful magnetic systems.
The isolation filters in all models are made according to the proprietary design of the company’s chief developer Joe Voitko, they use polypropylene and electrolyte capacitors, as well as custom-made inductors.
In addition, all drivers are connected to the amplifier through proprietary Vojtko crossovers – the company guarantees that, thanks to them, all drivers are in the optimal frequency range and balanced with each other. Motion cabinets are made from 18mm MDF with 31mm thick front walls. Externally, the cases are made in “pure” aesthetics, without visible fasteners and are equipped with fabric grills with magnetic latches. The models have thermal and current protection for the speakers; connection to the amplifier is carried out using a Bi-wiring or Bi-amping scheme.
Martin Logan Motion 35XTi are two-way bookshelf speakers from the new Motion series. The creators of the Motion series took their inspiration from the sound of ultra-hi-end electrostatic speakers from Martin Logan. Martin Logan engineers carefully developed the Motion Series to create an extremely affordable and compact product that combines the company’s Folded Motion HF source technology with powerful bass. The result is speakers with smooth, clear, refined sound and stunning dynamic range. The Motion 35XTi speakers feature 6.5″ (165 mm) woofers paired with proprietary Folded Motion XT tweeters.
The front panel of the speaker is made of black anodized plastic. The diffuser of the long-throw midrange/woofer speaker is also made of black anodized aluminum to match the panel. The emitters are matched through a crossover with an improved topology, assembled using polypropylene capacitors and low-loss electrolytes, as well as hand-wound inductors. The circuit provides thermal and current protection.
The bass reflex port is located on the rear wall. The speaker body is assembled from 19 mm thick MDF boards. On the rear side there is a specially designed bass reflex port, which guarantees a low level of turbulence even at maximum volume levels, which has a beneficial effect on the purity of the reproduced sound.
The peculiarity of the speakers is that they do not like to play at low and medium volumes. In this mode of operation, only the midrange remains of the frequency range, and the dynamics become inexpressive. As the volume increases, fast, elastic bass and fairly detailed highs appear. However, the lower middle still continues to prevail. The presentation of the musical material is scathing. At the same time, we must pay tribute, no extraneous sounds are felt; on the contrary, the after-sounds sometimes disappear even where they should be. The model tends to simplify the instrument timbres a little. At the same time, the ribbon tweeter is very audible, which gives a characteristic delicate color to the mid-upper range.
