SJY has introduced the Horizon Closed Carbon, a closed-back planar magnetic headphone designed and built in Houston, Texas. The model combines handmade drivers with forged-carbon ear cups, an aluminum structure and replaceable magnetic earpads, targeting audiophiles, music producers and gamers who require isolation and precise spatial cues.
Handmade planar magnetic drivers
Each Horizon Closed Carbon driver is built by hand by SJY Audio founder Jeffrey Yin. The planar magnetic assembly uses strong magnets and a full aluminum frame, while minimal damping and a proprietary tuning plate are employed to manage the headphone’s frequency balance.

SJY positions the Horizon Closed Carbon as offering the spacious presentation associated with open-back headphones while retaining the acoustic isolation of a closed enclosure. The company highlights imaging, vocal clarity and balanced response as central elements of the tuning, although no frequency-response range is specified.

The electrical specifications include an impedance of 11 ohms and sensitivity of 90 dB/mW. These figures provide prospective owners with the essential information needed when considering amplification, but SJY does not state a minimum power requirement.
Forged-carbon cups and aluminum construction
The closed ear cups are hand-cast from forged carbon fiber, producing a distinctive brushstroke-like pattern that varies with the material. A matte surface is intended to resist fingerprints and scratches, while the cups are paired with a CNC-machined aluminum frame.

Total specified weight is 1.27 pounds, or 580 grams. The design uses a two-layer full-grain leather headband: softer leather is used for the upper strap, while a thicker and more wear-resistant piece forms the lower section. Headband step resistance can be adjusted by tightening its screw with a T6 Torx or 1.5 mm hex key.

SJY has also made the earpads magnetically attached for straightforward removal. Their memory-foam interior is covered by a combination of perforated protein leather on the inner surface, non-perforated protein leather around the outside and breathable polyester across the front. This mix of materials is intended to improve conformity while limiting heat buildup during extended use.

Cable and supplied accessories
The standard package includes the Horizon Closed Carbon headphones, a 1.5-meter balanced cable terminated with a 4.4 mm connector and a velour carrying pouch. The published product details do not list alternative standard cables in the box.
Optional Magia cable bundles are offered with a 1.5-meter cable and a choice of balanced 4-pin XLR, balanced 4.4 mm, balanced 2.5 mm, single-ended 6.35 mm or Mini XLR termination. These bundles are listed separately from the standard configuration.

Price and fulfillment
The SJY Horizon Closed Carbon is listed at a sale price of $999, reduced from a regular price of $1,099. Magia cable bundle configurations are listed at $1,061.

The headphone is shown as available, with an indicated fulfillment period of approximately one week. That lead time reflects the small-scale production process: Yin manufactures and tests each pair personally rather than relying on a larger production line.
