Sony STR-DH590 is a 5.2-channel AV receiver that supports 4K resolution and the latest HDR standards such as HDR10, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) and Dolby Vision. High Dynamic Range (HDR) produces images with superior contrast, brightness, vibrant colors and excellent detail in dark and light areas.
The receiver’s power supply contains a powerful power transformer that allows it to provide a maximum power of 145 W per channel (at 6 Ohms and THD of 0.9%), and discrete amplifiers use well-designed cooling radiators and glass-epoxy printed circuit boards that help minimize distortions and weakening effects of vibrations. The AV receiver boards are reinforced with special metal frames to protect them from vibrations and all kinds of interference.
The Sony STR-DH590 supports most of the current surround sound decoders, including Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Dual Mono, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High-Resolution Audio, DTS and DTS 96/24. DSD streaming is available via HDMI, and proprietary S-Force PRO Front Surround technology allows you to create virtual surround sound even in a 2.1-channel configuration. There is an FM tuner on board.
The Sony STR-DH590 uses an efficient Digital Cinema Auto Calibration (DCAC) system to automatically calibrate the speakers according to the room conditions. The built-in Bluetooth module (version 4.2) provides access to wireless audio streaming from any Bluetooth devices, and also guarantees the ability to use Bluetooth Standby mode to activate the receiver using a smartphone or tablet.
The low body of the receiver, made in a laconic design, has a reinforced anti-vibration chassis. There is a Pure Direct button on the front panel for exceptionally pure sound, since the signal is sent along the shortest path directly to the receiver’s amplifier, and all additional functions (tone control, night mode, etc.) are disabled. The front also has an input for a calibration microphone and a 6.3 mm headphone output.
On the rear panel of the receiver there are four HDMI inputs with support for 4K resolution (60 Hz), HDCP 2.2 protocol, as well as HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG standards. There is an HDMI output with an ARC return channel. There are digital inputs (coaxial/optical) and a USB port (for charging USB devices only). There is also a set of linear analog RCA inputs and two subwoofer outputs. To connect speaker systems, two pairs of screw terminals (for front channels) and three pairs of spring terminals are used.
