Sony has released another Walkman player NW-WM1ZM2 .
Purer materials for purer sound
Although oxygen-free copper (OFC) is notoriously difficult to machine, the WM1ZM2 features a gold-plated OFC chassis – just like its predecessor. However, this time the OFC purity has been increased to 99.99% (four nines), which provides even more benefits in terms of sound quality and high rigidity. Bass notes are clear and powerful, ambience is more expansive, and mid- and high-range sounds are well preserved.
Accurate Audio Reproduction
S-Master™ HX digital amplifier technology, independently developed for the Walkman®, is native DSD compatible and supports balanced, high-power output. It reduces distortion and noise across a wide frequency range, delivering rich, rich sound that’s further enhanced by new high-quality lead-free solder.
An even more powerful power supply
Taking its inspiration from the DMP-Z1, our flagship digital music player, the WM1ZM2 features an even more powerful power supply than its predecessor, in both analog and digital units.
Milled OFC Block
The milled OFC block covers the digital block, helping to both strengthen the digital ground and improve noise isolation of digital block elements such as the application processor and memory devices. The result is a clearer sound that seems to rise out of silence.
FT CAP3 (High Polymer Capacitor)
Custom made for Sony and tuned by Sony engineers, FT CAP3 is used for all bypass capacitors in the audio power supply. Drawing on the know-how gained from developing high-end home audio, it has helped improve the expressiveness of sound and create a smoother sound experience, with wider sound space, greater transparency and tighter bass.
Large Solid High Polymer Capacitor
Applied as an auxiliary battery for the amplifier block, the newly developed large solid high polymer capacitor has large capacity and low resistance. Capable of delivering large amounts of power instantly, it can output signals accurately, preventing sudden voltage drops. This promotes clear, powerful and accurate low-frequency sound, as well as clear vocals.
Film Capacitors
High quality film capacitors produce a voltage that is linear in frequency, resulting in reduced distortion and noise.
Crystal Oscillators
Two compact, low phase noise crystal oscillators provide precision clock stability at multiples of 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz sampling rates. The electrode portion of the crystal is formed using gold vapor deposition to improve electrical performance and instrumental separation. This helps eliminate fog and reduce noise for clear, open sound reproduction.
KIMBER KABLE®
The wiring material from the base of the amplifier to the balanced headphone jack has been upgraded to the thick KIMBER KABLE®, just like the flagship DMP-Z1 music player. This helps block out external noise, transmit high-quality audio signals and achieve powerful and smooth sound.
Newly developed gold-containing solder
Sony is the first to use gold-containing solder, and it is widely used across the entire surface of the PCB, resulting in significant overall benefits, including improved sound localization and a wider sound space.
