Over the years of its existence, HiBy has established itself as a manufacturer of high-quality premium audio equipment. They develop and market some of the best selling digital players on the market today with successful products available in all price segments such as entry level – R3 Pro, mid range – R5 series of digital players, high end – RS6, R6, and we just don’t We may not mention the top-level flagship – R8. A few weeks ago, HiBy discontinued the R5 series, announcing the imminent release of an updated version of the R5. HiBy has finally pulled the curtains off its latest portable digital audio player today, bringing you the all-new HiBy R5 Gen 2 .
The latest HiBy R5 Gen. 2 is a completely redesigned R5 series player. This is actually the third player after the OG R5 and R5 Saber. The R5 Gen 2 has many improvements over its predecessors, making it an optimal DAP choice in the mid-price segment. First of all, we got a new DAC chipset with a new amplification circuit. Secondly, we get a new larger battery with improved battery life, as well as Class A headphone amplification in the R5 Gen 2. It now supports true high-resolution 32-Bit/768kHz PCM and native DSD256. The R5 Gen 2 features a number of different improvements over previous models.

New and Improved ESS Saber DAC Chipset
Instead of the Cirrus Logics DAC chips used in previous R5 DAP models, the HiBy uses a premium dual DAC chipset from ESS Saber Technologies. The R5 Gen 2 features two ES9219C DAC chips. The ES9219C is the latest generation 32-bit DAC capable of delivering exceptional performance with ultra-low THN distortion and high SNR.
The HiBy R5 Gen 2 Class A Headphone Amplifier
features fully discrete Class A headphone amplification. Class A amplification sounds clearer and more controlled than any other headphone amplification technology. The R5 Gen 2 features a discrete output stage that provides ample output power and control over variable loads. The R5 Gen 2 has powerful amplification of up to 150mW through the single-ended port and up to 475mW through the balanced headphone output. These numbers are quite enough to easily drive powerful headphones.
High-Resolution Decoding Like Never Before
Previous R5 DAPs, such as the R5 or R5 Saber, supported decoding of 32-bit/384kHz PCM and DSD256 files. The new R5 Gen2 supports native DSD256, PCM 32-bit/768 kHz decoding. It even has full 16x MQA decoding. This is a significant improvement over the previous two R5 players, delivering high-quality Hi-Res audio decoding in a compact form factor.
Added 2.5mm balanced headphone output
Previously, R5 series digital audio players had 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced headphone outputs. But with the latest model, the R5 Gen 2, HiBy brings back the already popular 2.5mm balanced headphone jack.
Larger Display
The HiBy R5 Gen 2 features a larger 4.7-inch display with a 1280x720p resolution. The picture quality is brighter, clearer and more colorful than the previous two R5 series models.
Better Battery Life
HiBy has equipped the R5 Gen 2 with a larger 4500mAh battery that delivers longer battery life. Thanks to the new, larger battery, the R5 Gen 2’s battery life has increased to 35 hours in standard mode and up to 8.5 hours in fully discrete Class A amplification mode.
