The FiiO company has established itself as a manufacturer of a wide variety of portable Hi-Fi equipment (headphones, players, headphone amplifiers) of a very high class and at a very reasonable cost. However, the X7 II (second generation) player is noticeably different from everything FiiO has released so far. This HD audio player is made in a classic smartphone form factor with a multi-point touch screen, is equipped with a 4-core processor and runs the Android KitKat operating system. Indeed, in terms of its technical parameters, the FiiO X7 II represents a significant step forward in comparison with the company’s previous models in this class.
The player is equipped with a multi-touch screen with a diagonal of 800 x 480 pixels and 16 million colors on an ISP matrix. In addition, its body has six mechanical buttons for controlling playback and adjusting volume.
The flagship received 2 GB of RAM, and the volume of its internal storage has doubled compared to its predecessor and is 64 GB. The player is also equipped with two slots for microSD cards (2 x 256 GB). The model received a convenient interface, as well as a lighter and smaller stylish aluminum body. The boards most sensitive to electromagnetic interference have shield plates. The four-inch touch display, on which tempered protective glass is already glued in stock, uses advanced In-Cell technology and has a fairly high resolution.
The volume wheel is recessed into the left side, which reduces the likelihood of accidental scrolling, and any control/button can be locked directly from the display. The Android OS, which has undergone custom fine-tuning, is characterized by increased performance, is less susceptible to “bugs,” uses battery economically, which lasts for eight hours of listening, and has two operating modes: regular Android and special Pure Music. In Pure Music mode, access to all additional applications is limited to improve sound quality. To quickly charge the battery, technologies that support QC2.0 and MTK PE standards are used.
FiiO X7 II plays WAV files up to 64-bit/384 kHz, as well as all common AIFF, FLAC, WMA, MP3, ACC and OGG formats, DSD64/128 and DXD 352.8 kHz. The device is built on the basis of a single-chip Rockchip RK3188 SoC and a 4-core Cortex A9 1.4 GHz processor, characterized by low power consumption. The player has 1 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 64 GB of permanent memory, of which 54 GB is available to the user. This is not too much if HD files are recorded in the player’s memory, so the device has a slot for microSD cards (supported capacity up to 256 GB).
The model has three quartz oscillators: for DSD and sampling frequencies that are multiples of 44.1 kHz, for frequencies that are multiples of 48 kHz, and also for a frequency of 384 kHz. The result is exceptional signal preprocessing accuracy, which affects the quality of its subsequent conversion.
The FiiO X7 Mark II player is equipped with a removable AM3A amplifier module equipped with high-quality operational amplifiers. The module has a built-in asynchronous Micro-USB (for working with a computer/charging) and two headphone jacks – a regular mini-jack and a 2.5 mm balanced one.
FiiO X7 II is equipped with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules for wireless signal transmission and has a micro-USB connector. You can connect an external amplifier or a PC to the latter – in this case, the player will work as an external DAC with parameters of 32 bit / 384 kHz. Other functionalities of the player include replaceable amplifier modules, a 10-band equalizer and a three-stage gain switch.
