The Sennheiser HD 620S are closed over-ear head-fi headphones with an impressive open and natural hi-fi sound. Here you have the solution, if you love true audiophile sound, but also need good insulation against noise from the surroundings. Sennheiser has worked hard to bring you the same quality as from their legendary open models, and you’ll be surprised at how well they’ve succeeded with the HD 620S.
Among enthusiasts, it is almost a religion whether open or closed headphones sound best. But the Sennheiser HD 620S is a really good compromise, which by far gives you the best of both worlds. The sound flows naturally and relaxed at any volume, the weight is very moderate for a real head-fi model, and the soft enveloping ear cushions in synthetic leather, give you an unrivaled wearing comfort hour after hour.
HIGH-QUALITY DRIVERS WITH ADVANCED SOLUTIONS
The advanced 42mm drivers in the HD 620S are, among other things, equipped with a soft low-loss suspension and a super light aluminum voice coil. This has made it possible to tune the overall reproduction to a full and dynamic bass, and at the same time an outstanding resolution of the very finest details in the treble.
Beyond this, the drivers are angled in relation to the ears, instead of playing directly into the ear canals. It gives the experience of sitting in front of a set of proper high-end speakers, where the music is playing right in front of you and not inside your head like with normal headphones. Combined with the superbly clear and detailed reproduction of the entire tonal range, you can look forward to a completely new and exciting experience at home on the sofa, in front of the computer, or wherever you prefer to enjoy your favorite music.
DESERVES ITS OWN AMP
The Sennheiser HD 620S are true audiophile headphones, which will quickly reveal any limitations of the connected equipment. Therefore, they are primarily intended for use with a separate headphone amplifier, or at least a high-quality headphone output on a stationary amplifier or receiver. If you listen to music from your phone or computer, one of the DragonFly mobile D/A converters from AudioQuest can also be a good solution, which neither takes up much space nor costs the world.
The Sennheiser HD 620S is available in a black finish.
INSPIRATION FROM THE PROFESSIONAL WORLD
Sennheiser has been making headphones since 1945 and is among the oldest and most experienced manufacturers in this area. Sennheiser’s headphones are preferred for reference use in thousands of sound studios worldwide, due to their open and uncolored reproduction.
These qualities are also found in the HD 620S, but in this version the sound is tuned to a full and extended bass, which invites relaxed music listening, more than analytical comparison of different recordings and mixes. You don’t get a “boosted” bass, just a slightly fuller bottom end than in many other head-fi models. The result is a very pleasant and musical sound, which you can enjoy for hours without getting tired of listening.
OPEN OR CLOSED?
The Sennheiser HD 620S is a closed construction, which shields well from ambient sounds. Many head-fi enthusiasts prefer open models, because you completely avoid reflections from a chamber, which can affect the back of the diaphragm and create distortion. It is theoretically optimal, but in return also means that the sound passes through almost freely in both directions. You can clearly hear your surroundings, and your surroundings can also listen with you if you play loudly.
Due to the free passage of sound, open headphones are not particularly well suited for listening in noisy environments. If you need your very own oasis, where you can always enjoy the music completely undisturbed, a good closed model like the Sennheiser HD 620S may be a better solution.
