In the course of creating a relatively affordable model of the Musical Fidelity M2Si amplifier, the specialists used all the experience accumulated during the development of the senior lines. At the same time, the bet was made on technical solutions proven over the years. The amplifier has a separate power supply for the pre- and final sections using separate windings of a toroidal transformer. The pre-circuit is made in pure class A, while the powerful cascades operate in the more familiar AB. And here is the most curious thing: the peak value of the output current can reach an impressive 25 A. There really should be no problems with pumping up even the most “tight” acoustics. The amplifier is equipped with six analog inputs, one of which (AUX 1) can be switched to HT mode for operation in a home theater system.
The use of exclusive components in the Musical Fidelity M2Si design, specially developed for surface mounting technology (SMD Musical Fidelity) made it possible to reduce the length of printed conductors. This led to a decrease in linear capacitance and inductance, and also made it possible to expand the frequency band and dynamic range.
The Musical Fidelity M2Si integrated amplifier boasts the “Trickle-down” technology from the mighty and legendary flagship Titan, as well as other high-quality elements such as solid metal controls. The Musical Fidelity M2si delivers 76 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 137 watts into 4 ohms. This means that the M2si can easily be combined with a wide range of speaker systems, even models with “heavy” impedance.
The level of nonlinear distortion of Musical Fidelity M2Si measured at a frequency of 1 kHz does not exceed 0.007%, and at a frequency of 10 kHz it is only 0.01%. Such a value of the harmonic coefficient, practically independent of the frequency of the input signal, can be considered a kind of record for Hi-Fi equipment. And it is this fact that best confirms the optimality of all circuit solutions.
The reproduction of the Musical Fidelity M2Si amplifier is distinguished by increased dynamics, the necessary aggression and amazing rhythmic elaboration. The device easily and naturally reveals any musical genres, focusing on the liveliness of the sound and meticulous elaboration of the smallest details. It confidently controls the acoustics at any volume, keeping all ranges in shape – from deep rolling bass to crystal highs. I also liked the transmission of midrange frequencies, the sound in this area is as clear as possible, timbre-rich and filled with the smallest nuances. The space turns out to be consistent both in scale and in terms of separation of plans. There are no complaints about the accuracy of positioning of virtual images, nor about their size.
