The Technics SL-1210 turntable made a highly anticipated return in various iterations. Originally cherished by audiophiles for its affordability, the revamped model came with a significantly higher price tag. In response, Technics introduced a more budget-friendly option, the Technics SL-1200GR, which has begun to appear in select markets. This model shares many features with the SL-1200G, including direct drive technology, precise rotation control, a robust vibration-damping platter, and a statically balanced, sensitive S-shaped tonearm.
The player features a hybrid chassis, with the upper section constructed from aluminum and the lower section made of ABS, enhanced with fiberglass reinforcement. It is mounted on supports that boast a sophisticated design, essentially consisting of a spring encased in a silicone shell. This configuration effectively shields the player from external vibrations and adeptly mitigates potential resonances. Additionally, the supports offer height adjustment capabilities, enabling precise horizontal alignment of the player, even on uneven surfaces.
The Technics SL-1210GR features a robust motor that directly drives the support platter. This model has seen significant enhancements to improve the smoothness of record rotation and minimize vibrations. The rotor magnets are strategically positioned on both sides, which aids in maintaining precise disk rotation speed. The motor is linked to a highly accurate digital control circuit that produces a precise sinusoidal signal at a specified frequency. This circuit also facilitates a user-friendly dual-range Pitch control system. The rotation speed adjustment for the Technics SL-1210GR is electronic, allowing for standard speeds of 33 and 45 rpm, as well as the option to play records at 78 rpm.
The Technics SL-1210GR features a distinctive S-shaped tonearm constructed from aluminum, equipped with a cardan bearing. Its meticulously engineered design ensures reliable and precise tracking of the sound track, accommodating a diverse range of cartridges. Additionally, this model comes with an extra counterweight. For connecting to an external phono preamplifier, it includes a pair of gold-plated RCA jacks alongside a screw-type ground terminal.
