ELAC Uni-Fi Reference: Updated coaxials and aluminum woofers

The ELAC Uni-Fi Reference line of acoustics is an evolution of the Uni-Fi 2.0 series, removing, according to James Krodel, ELAC senior vice president of sales, its price constraints. Compared to the Uni-Fi 2.0, the ELAC Uni-Fi Reference acoustics received “many technical and cosmetic improvements.”

In addition to the “cosmetics”, the Uni-Fi Reference speakers will be adorned with ELAC’s proprietary solution – a concentric mid-high frequency driver. This is a 4-inch module that has improved the matching of the tweeter with the midrange around it. The driver received an updated neodymium magnet system and a modified die-cast aluminum frame.

The bass in ELAC Uni-Fi Reference systems is handled by freshly designed speakers with aluminum cones and die-cast baskets, in either 5.25 or 6.5 inches. The intricate curvature of the diffusers is designed to provide improved linearity. The new additions are complemented by a three-way crossover with a completely redesigned circuitry, which will improve driver integration and provide a nominal impedance of 6 ohms.

The acoustics of the Uni-Fi Reference line received a case reinforced with many internal struts. Front woofer ports provide maximum freedom in speaker placement. The Uni-Fi Reference line includes 3 models: floor standing UFR52, shelf UBR62 and center channel system UFR52. All three new models will be available at the end of June.

The prices of the new ELAC Uni-Fi Reference are already known: in the US, bookshelf speakers will cost $ 1,000 per pair, floor-standing speakers – $ 1,000 apiece, and a center channel system – $ 600.
