The Denon DHT-S716H soundbar is capable of raising the sound quality of even TVs with a high-quality audio system to a new level, significantly increasing the degree of involvement of viewers in what is happening on the screen. In addition, it can become part of a multi-room HEOS audio system with convenient control via a mobile application and provide access to various on-line services, as well as collections of music files on network devices.

The Denon DHT-S716H is ready for new AV technologies and features four HDMI 2.0 inputs (4K UHD compatible) and HDCP 2.2 support. Thus, using a soundbar will significantly expand the switching capabilities of your existing TV, ensuring the connection of more 4K signal sources. For precise processing of multi-channel audio, the Denon DHT-S716H is equipped with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoders. You can use Ethernet or Wi-Fi to connect to the HEOS network; the soundbar also has a Bluetooth receiver on board. To connect analog signal sources, a linear input is provided on the mini-jack connector. The Denon DHT-S716H soundbar supports playback of files in Lossless and High Resolution formats – PCM up to 24 bit / 192 kHz and DSD 2.8 / 5.6 MHz.

The filling of the Denon DHT-S716H is as follows: under the dustproof mesh on the facade there are three pairs of oval midwoofers measuring 51 x 127 mm and three tweeters of 38 mm caliber. All heads stand at an angle of 45 degrees – the tilt is necessary so that the acoustics can be placed on a table and hung on the wall with equal success (including upside down – the supports, which also serve as brackets, have proper “reverse” eyes ). There are six built-in amplifiers, that is, in each of the three audio channels a by-amping circuit with active division into bands is implemented. The on-board DSP performs decoding and “layout” of a multi-channel or stereophonic signal, its frequency and time correction. However, the choice of specific user sound modes depends on the composition of the system. Alone, Bar will only provide 3.0 playback with a virtual environment.

The proprietary description for the Denon DHT-S716H talks a lot about support for playing Hi-Res audio files over the network (including DSD) and access to external services like Rhapsody, Pandora, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, SiriusXM. But there is no mention of Bluetooth, which is why many are immediately disappointed. But on the back panel you will find the coveted button for “pairing” the soundbar with smartphones – there is such a function!

Another detail: when the acoustics are placed “lying” in front of the panel, it happens that it covers the IR receiver. To avoid problems with controlling the TV, the developers have provided IR repeaters in the rear of the Denon DHT-S716H case and installed a socket for an external command receiver. And at the same time, we supplemented its equipment with a simple remote control for quickly changing the operating modes of the system “in one button”, so not only smartphone owners will be able to use the equipment.

And finally, a very small detail – the HEOS logo. It turns out that it can easily be turned 180 degrees so that the external aesthetics are not disturbed, even if the sound bar is mounted on the wall with the connection panel facing up. By the way, this option in practice turned out to be the best in terms of sound. Especially if you attach pads under the brackets so that the axes of the speakers are located at a sharper angle to the listening point than to the floor. When the Denon DHT-S716H is simply placed on a stand or under the TV panel in the “normal” position, the sound from them goes not only to you, but also to the ceiling. This adds volume to the sound space, but the clarity of images and linearity at high frequencies are sacrificed (this can be compensated for by the timbre block). In addition, there is a risk of encountering a horn effect due to early reflections from a shelf or wall, which will highlight the frequency region of 300 – 800 Hz. And with the installation we recommend, a clear and not at all illusory stereo scene is formed, output and linearity at low frequencies increases, and the mid register is less emphasized.

Denon DHT-S716H is designed for large TVs with a diagonal of 50 inches or more. For convenience, it is equipped with a control panel with six programmable buttons, by pressing which you can call up certain functions or radio stations. The application for mobile devices has the same functionality.
