The Bowers & Wilkins 704 S3 floorstanding speakers represent the most compact option within the 700 series, making them well-suited for medium-sized spaces. Their design features a less obtrusive profile, with elegantly curved front panels that are relatively slim. Crafted with high-quality materials, the 704 S3 speakers boast an appealing aesthetic, whether the protective grilles are in place or removed. The grilles utilize discreet magnetic attachments, ensuring a clean look without visible fasteners once they are taken off. Additionally, the Bowers & Wilkins 704 S3 is offered in three distinct exterior finishes.
The acoustic system features a three-way design. In contrast to the previous versions of the Bowers & Wilkins 704 S3 series, the tweeter is integrated within the enclosure. This installation method effectively mitigates any adverse effects on its performance caused by the other drivers. The model incorporates a new high-frequency driver with a damped carbon dome, delivering an airy and detailed sound without any undesirable coloration. The enhanced high-frequency range of the Bowers & Wilkins 704 S3 significantly improves sound quality, particularly when enjoying music recorded in high-resolution formats.
The midrange driver utilized in these speakers is constructed from a proprietary Continuum composite, which is both lightweight and robust, effectively minimizing its own resonances. Featuring an FST design that eliminates the need for a suspension, the driver’s movement system is engineered to prevent any unwanted sound coloration during the playback of vocals and acoustic instruments. Additionally, two bass drivers equipped with Aerofoil diffusers and complemented by a Flowport bass reflex system deliver powerful bass, achieving a surprising depth for a floor-standing speaker of this size.
Bowers & Wilkins 704 S3 speakers are supported by a base plate that enhances their stability and minimizes vibrations from the floor. The internal design of the speaker cabinet is engineered to eliminate wall vibrations and prevent sound coloration. Additionally, these speakers feature a high-quality crossover filter and come with two pairs of input screw terminals.
