Rega Research has transitioned to an employee-owned structure. Established by Roy Gandy in 1973, this esteemed hi-fi brand is well-known for its turntables, tonearms, and cartridges. In addition to these products, the company offers a variety of other audio equipment, including phono preamplifiers, CD players, amplifiers, and speaker systems, all produced in the UK.
Starting on 28 October 2024, Rega Research Ltd will transition to ownership under an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), representing the interests of all employees as beneficial owners. In a recent announcement, Rega stated: “On this date, Roy Gandy has transferred 100% of his shares in the company into a trust, ensuring the long-term protection of Rega. This remarkable act, from which Roy Gandy will not gain any financial advantage, has facilitated Rega Research’s establishment as an Employee Ownership Trust. The transition to an EOT offers numerous advantages, primarily aimed at safeguarding our company culture and the results of decades of dedication. This change will prevent the company from being sold or subjected to buyouts, thereby ensuring job security for all employees in the future.”
Roy Gandy will remain the chief executive of the company, concentrating on development and sales, which are his preferred areas of focus. Rega has stated that the brand’s daily operations will remain unchanged, with the company’s longstanding tradition of in-house product development and manufacturing at its Southend, Essex factory continuing as usual.
