ROSE RS01E is an audio/video player with a built-in ES9018K2M DAC, volume control and 2×50 W power amplifier. To ensure a complete experience, the device also features a 4K video processor on HDMI output and its own multi-touch display.
The unit itself provides all the features you would expect from a full stereo system, while offering high levels of audio performance in an extremely compact package. Moreover, its extensive input/output channel, supported by extensive wireless connectivity, provides a wealth of integration options: each stage (playback/DAC/power amplification) has its own output.
The RS201E will be very useful whether it joins an existing audio system or performs the function of an entire audio installation on its own.
It is also possible to disable the entire analog portion of the device to use it as a pure converter.
A great successor to the RS201, this E version now includes a FEMTO clock to make the most of the built-in SABER DAC.
The analogue outputs have also been upgraded, with significant improvements to the acoustic terminals.
The digital/analog conversion stage works with the SABER ES9018K2M chip. This 32-bit DAC model supports PCM files up to 384 kHz/32 bit with native DSD support up to DSD256 (11.2 MHz).
The DAC is integrated in a design designed to maximize the capabilities of the DAC/amplifier chip pair. Ground connections, internal wiring, and even the potential vibration of mechanical parts have been studied to optimize audio fidelity, greatly improving channel separation while also reducing noise and distortion. This results in a very favorable THD of 0.004% measured at the speaker output and 0.0018% at the preamp output.
Like all SABER chips, the integrated DAC in the RS201E is equipped with Hyperstream II technology and takes advantage of its special signal reconstruction algorithms and active noise/signal decorrelation.
ESS technology introduces Time Domain Jitter Eliminator into the RS201E decoding process, which effectively prevents digital noise from being transmitted to the power amplifier.
Most importantly, the ESS sub DAC chips have an internal DSP control function that allows you to smoothly adjust the digital volume. That is, the interface offers the comfort of digital volume control (multiple media remote control, touch screen/remote/external app).
On the one hand, the ESS sabre chip is connected to the preamplifier output for direct control of an external amplifier. On the other hand, it is connected to an internal amplifier (Texas Instrument PurePath 2x50W). This additional output will please audiophiles who want to easily route the signal to an auxiliary setup (a home theater system or a tube amplifier, for example).
The RS201E has fully configurable playback settings that offer multiple control options.
The media center runs Android OS 7.0 (nougat), controlled via a large multi-touch 8.8-inch touch screen (1920 × 480px), accessible directly on the front panel. This provides access to all functions while remaining as intuitive to use as our everyday smartphone or tablet.
Naturally, when the screen is not used for control, it can display video, audio track metadata (sample rate, title, album cover… etc.) or any necessary settings for playback (volume, fast forward, repeat, playlists …).
The bluetooth remote control (included with the RS201E) allows the user to control all playback parameters remotely.
Finally, the free ROSE Connect app will turn any iOS or Android smartphone into a remote control for the RS201E, as long as they’re on the same network.
The device has a stereo line-in input (RCA), a Toslink input, two USB inputs (USB 2.0 and USB 3.0) and a micro SD card reader.
The media stream can be distributed equally well over the home network via the RJ45 10/100/1000 BASE-T port and the high-speed WiFi connection 802.11 b/g/n/a/ac (2.4 GHz/5 GHz).
Bluetooth (V4.0 / V3.0 + HS) is also available for all cases requiring a one-time connection with a third device.
The ROSE-201 offers a direct DAC output to bypass the integrated amplifier and output to another system.
Headphone enthusiasts will love the high-quality 3.5mm headphone output (sharing the decoded DAC signal) located on the front panel.
An additional Toslink digital output allows the built-in NAS function to be used with other decoding devices.
The HDMI 2.0 connector provides audio/video transmission with resolutions of 480p / 480i / 576p / 576i / 720p / 720i / 1080p / 1080i / 4k (maximum resolution: 4096 × 2160).
