The Naim ND5 XS 2 network player uses an innovative streaming platform with an advanced feature set. Support for UPnP, AirPlay, Chromecast, Bluetooth (aptX HD), Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Roon, vTuner, various multi-room modes, digital and USB inputs make this versatile player the ideal partner for one of Naim’s integrated amplifiers.
The streaming section of the Naim ND5 XS 2 uses Naim’s proprietary low-voltage differential digital audio network card. Thanks to its high speed, decoding of all HD audio formats up to 32 bit / 384 kHz or DSD128 is supported. The new streaming platform allows you to control the audio data stream using its own DAC clock rather than an external one. Before being sent to the DAC, incoming data is resampled by a SHARC DSP to 40-bit precision and then sent to a PCM1791A Burr-Brown D/A converter.
For maximum convenience, the ND5 XS features three independently switchable S/PDIF digital inputs for connecting CD players, computers and other digital audio sources with resolutions up to 24-bit/192 kHz. . Each digital input on the ND5 XS 2 features a variety of TosLink optical, RCA coaxial and BNC coaxial connectors for maximum versatility and optimized sound quality.
The Naim ND5 XS is as versatile in its use as it is in its applications. Three user interfaces provide alternative methods of device control – each suited to different situations and personal preferences. The player can be controlled using the front panel buttons, the remote control or the free Naim n-Stream app for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. In all cases, simple, intuitive and reliable operation is ensured. System automation features also allow the ND5 XS 2 to be integrated with a DAC or any connected Naim preamp/CD player, with central control via the n-Stream app.
As with every Naim product, special attention has been paid to eliminating noise and regulating power supplies. A Naim wound power transformer, large smoothing capacitors, independent multi-regulated power supplies and a specially designed ground circuit ensure minimal noise from the power supply.
