The McIntosh MR89 brings to mind the MR78 from the 1970s, which many still consider the best tuner. The MR89 features McIntosh’s exclusive RF circuitry, capable of receiving both strong FM signals from nearby stations that can cause distortion in less advanced systems. It can also tune to weaker FM signals with virtually no noise.
Many improvements were made to the MR89. Sensitivity parameters, signal-to-noise ratio, harmonic distortion, channel selectivity and stereo separation have been carefully analyzed and improved. New features have also been added, including a High Blend option and a Stereo Blending feature, as well as Softmute and Highcut.
60 dB meters show the transmitted signal level from the analog outputs of each channel. A pair of balanced and unbalanced analog outputs, as well as one each of digital coaxial and optical outputs for connection, will allow you to connect the MR89 to almost any home audio system.
The new product supports the FM radio data system RBDS1 (available only in the US), which allows you to display various information such as station name, music genre, artist name and song title (if broadcast by the station).
