Swedish software maker Dirac and audio brand Bluesound, known for the BluOS streaming eco-system, today announced a collaboration to integrate Dirac’s Dirac Live Room Correction solution into select Bluesound devices. Integration provides room correction capabilities with the purchase of a microphone accessory kit and license.

According to Fredric Tapper, VP Home & Pro Audio of Dirac, this first collaboration with Bluesound represents an important milestone for the company as it continues to strengthen its position as the industry’s leading provider of digital room correction technologies, both in the high-end home theater market and now into the multi-room wireless streaming market.

“The ways in which consumers listen to music at home are changing. While dedicated listening rooms were once the norm, the entire home is now the listening room: the living room, kitchen, bedrooms, basements and more,” Tapper said. “However, this expanded definition of listening room has created new challenges in high-fidelity reproduction, as open-air spaces with dynamic room sizes and dimensions can have a significant impact on sound quality. This unique partnership with Bluesound solves these challenges by delivering high-fidelity sound to every room and listening space, regardless of its complexity.”

Powered by patented technologies, Dirac Live is the market leading solution for room correction. It automatically addresses the common acoustic issues that all home audio systems face, but hardware alone can’t handle it or it takes too much time, expertise or money to do so.

The software is unique in that it corrects both the magnitude and phase of the entire sound system, including the room itself – resulting in a more transparent, balanced sound, tighter bass, improved staging and enhanced clarity.

“At Bluesound, we fundamentally believe that consumers don’t have to sacrifice audio quality for the convenience of streaming, and multi-room streamed audio doesn’t have to come at the expense of high-fidelity sound reproduction,” said Matt Simmonds, Bluesound Product Manager. “HiFi runs deep in our DNA and that’s why we’re so excited to partner with Dirac, a company that shares our commitment to audio innovation and the pursuit of perfected sound. These Dirac Ready Bluesound devices will set new performance standards in the multi-room WiFi-based streamed audio market.”

Future Bluesound devices will be Dirac Live ready once a Dirac Live license has been purchased via the Dirac website. Backward compatibility with existing Bluesound devices is also being explored and rollout plans for eligible models will be shared at a later date. A calibration kit will be available for purchase on Bluesound’s website when Bluesound’s first Dirac-enabled player becomes available.
