CH Precision has unveiled a new drive named the D10, designed for reading CDs and SACDs. The D10 features two separate housings, with the power supply housed independently. The combined weight of the two housings is 64 kilograms.
As stated by its creators, the D10 establishes a new benchmark in CD and SACD playback, positioning itself as the most sophisticated (SA)CD transport to date. Its design is directly influenced by the essential insights and established framework of the D1.5. By enhancing the groundwork laid by its smaller counterpart, the D10 transforms every element of digital data retrieval, setting a fresh standard for accuracy and dependability, as noted by CH Precision.
At the core of the D10 lies CH Precision’s groundbreaking MORSE (Mechanically Optimized Reading & Stability Enhancement) laser mechanism. Entirely designed and developed by CH Precision, MORSE establishes unmatched benchmarks in mechanical precision, stability, and accuracy for reading optical music discs, as stated by the Swiss manufacturer. The D10 features a floating transport platform, an enhancement over the monolithic design of the D1.5, which utilizes an advanced composite structure, specifically an aluminum casing with a dense brass core. This significantly enhances vibration-damping capabilities and overall mechanical strength. The MORSE mechanism has a substantial weight of 13 kilograms (over ten times heavier than its predecessor’s mechanism) and is supported by alpha-gel isolators that effectively minimize vibrations to below 20 Hz, greatly reducing mechanical noise and maintaining the integrity of the digital signal.
Among the numerous innovations in the D10 is a circular precision level that is directly mounted on the drive, ensuring that the drive remains perfectly level at all times. This feature is intended to optimize rotational stability. Additionally, a motorized top-loading mechanism allows for vertical access to the Disc Vault, which is secured by a hybrid door. Every mechanical decision is made with the music in mind: each CD or SACD inserted is captured with complete accuracy, revealing a level of resolution, spatiality, and natural expression that redefines the potential of optical reproduction. MQA CDs are also compatible and can be read.
Like all 10 Series reference components, the D10 Reference Transport utilizes a separate external power supply (PSU). Designed with exceptional current and voltage reserves, comparable to those found in many power amplifiers, the PSU delivers stable, ultra-clean power to the transport mechanism, minimizing noise and preserving the integrity of the digital signal.
Four galvanically isolated sections provide independent power to the transport motor, controller, DSP, and master clock, which eliminates crosstalk and guarantees clean electrical conditions.
Cascade control ensures that each subsystem receives consistently clean and stable power. Weighing a total of 64 kilograms for both enclosures, the D10 firmly positions itself as the leading heavyweight in digital reproduction.
