Enhancing a Legend
The Sennheiser HD 660 S headphones were designed to deliver the highest quality music from a variety of sound sources. Sennheiser’s high-end headphones have inspired generations with their balanced, natural reproduction. Recognized as the benchmark for neutral audiophile sound, the HD 600, HD 650 and HD 660S share visible and audible DNA with the HD 660S2.

The new HD 660S2 coil matches the 300 ohm impedance of the legendary HD 600 and HD 650. This new coil also provides greater magnetic force and electrical damping for a cleaner impulse response. In addition, the suspension has become more flexible, reducing the resonant frequency to 70 Hz. Overall, these measures result in even greater precision, speed and resolution – with double the sound pressure at the lowest frequencies.

Significantly increased suspension compliance by lowering the resonant frequency from 110 Hz to 70 Hz –> in open-back headphones, the bass falls below the resonant frequency, so the lower resonant frequency enhances the bass. Optimized the airflow around the driver and reduced air leakage between the front and back of the driver. Air leakage creates an acoustic short circuit, reducing the acoustic pressure for low frequencies. The coil in the HD 660S2 has been redesigned to match the legendary HD 600 and 650, resulting in an impedance of 300 ohms: better electrical damping and lighter weight with improved part extraction.
