CS100 features four two-stage systems, each equipped with local feedback, all designed in a single-ended topology. This uniform architecture across all stages offers notable benefits. Primarily, it guarantees a consistent sound quality throughout the entire signal path, from input to output. Additionally, the distortions produced by the individual amplifier stages share similar characteristics, including a comparable harmonic structure, which makes them less taxing for the listener compared to a mix of distortions from varying sources.

Class AB for greater efficiency

Traditional single-ended amplifiers typically function in class A, a method known for its low efficiency and high power consumption. In the CS100, MOREaudio has innovatively designed the final stage to operate in class AB, utilizing advanced single-ended topology solutions. This approach enhances energy efficiency while maintaining the low distortion characteristics associated with class A.

The output stage of the CS100 employs a blend of positive and negative feedback, which effectively imparts a negative output impedance to the amplifier. While this may sound complex, it essentially means that the amplifier can adapt to the speaker’s behavior, ensuring optimal operating conditions.

It is important to note that speakers are often the most significant source of distortion in the audio chain. The amplifier’s negative output impedance plays a crucial role in reducing these distortions, allowing the speakers to perform at their best and greatly enhancing the overall quality of the audio system.

No global feedback

In the CS100, MOREaudio has intentionally chosen to forgo the global feedback loop, opting instead for local feedback across distinct stages. While feedback is commonly utilized in amplifiers to minimize distortion and enhance specific characteristics, it is not without its disadvantages. A significant issue associated with feedback amplifiers is TIM distortion (Transient Intermodulation Distortion), which arises from delays within the feedback loop. Such distortions adversely affect the dynamics and authenticity of sound, particularly with musically intricate signals.
