Atoll SDA200: A well-engineered Class A/B integrated amplifier

The Atoll SDA200 Signature distinguishes itself from its predecessor, the SDA200, by incorporating the enduring PCM1792 DAC instead of the PCM5102 converter. This DAC supports resolutions of up to 24/192 and DSD 128, allowing these signals to be transmitted through either the coaxial or optical PCM output, or directed to an amplifier.

The Atoll SDA200 Signature is also a fully-fledged integrated amplifier with two analog inputs. The signal path is covered by shielded MKP Mundorf capacitors, and the power supply is implemented using two toroidal transformers (digital devices have a separate power supply) with a total capacity of more than 60,000 μF. Two pairs of field-effect MOSFETs per channel provide 2 x 120 W into 8 ohms. Thanks to the significant output current, the Atoll SDA200 Signature easily copes with working with acoustics even with a complex impedance characteristic.

The all-metal case of the Atoll SDA200 Signature features a thick aluminum front panel, which, among other controls, features buttons for an analog volume control using switched resistors. On the front panel of the device is an LCD screen with a large amount of well-organized graphical data, which most streamers would envy. The slider and the “back” button on the left are used to navigate the entire device and all functions. On the right is a volume control in the form of a stepped attenuator, very pleasant to the touch when using. A convenient USB port on the front panel allows you to connect external drives and disks without going behind the device, and there is also a headphone jack.

The front panel of the Atoll SDA200 Signature has a built-in USB port for external storage devices and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The rear panel has a full set of S/PDIF inputs, another USB for flash drives and HDD, a LAN port and two digital outputs (optical and coaxial). Analog switching is represented by a pair of linear RCA inputs and one RCA output. Thanks to this set of connectors, the streamer can be used as a full-fledged preamplifier. The device is equipped with a trigger output that allows you to activate an amplifier or DAC connected to it with a corresponding trigger input. The signal transmission circuits of the Atoll SDA200 Signature use selected Mundorf MKP capacitors in reinforced cases. The device is distinguished by very high build quality, typical of premium audio equipment. Custom screw terminals are provided for connecting acoustics, and all connectors have gold-plated contact surfaces.

Atoll SDA200 Signature supports DLNA, UPnP protocols and can be connected to a local network using a wired method (via an RJ45 LAN connector) or via Wi-Fi pairing. This opens access to playback of audio files stored on servers and computers in the local network, including PCM up to 24 bits/192 kHz and DSD64/DSD128. Atoll SDA200 Signature supports the gapless function (playback without pauses) and allows you to create playlists. Playback control is available using the real-time streaming protocol RTSP. A remote control is included in the kit, but it is much more convenient to “command” the Atoll SDA200 Signature using a proprietary application for devices based on Android or iOS. This application also provides direct access to online music services such as Qobuz, Tidal and Deezer. The Airable web service is supported, guaranteeing access to more than 100,000 radio stations. The model also has a built-in Bluetooth receiver for wireless playback of audio broadcast from Bluetooth sources.
