Shanling has introduced the ET3 EVO, a desktop CD transport and digital player designed to feed an external DAC or another component with digital inputs. Building on the original ET3 platform, the EVO version adds optimized power and digital transport circuitry alongside a distinctive dark-gray finish.
An Updated Top-Loading CD Transport
The ET3 EVO retains the core role of its predecessor: reading compact discs and delivering the resulting signal in digital form for conversion elsewhere in a hi-fi system. It does not include an analog output stage or integrated amplification, making an external DAC or digitally equipped component essential.
Disc playback is handled by a Philips SAA7824 mechanism. The player supports standard CD, CD-R and CD-RW media, while its top-loading design provides direct access to the disc without a motorized tray.

Shanling has given the EVO a visibly different identity from the original ET3. The metal enclosure has a dark-gray finish, carbon-like texturing appears on the front panel and CD lid, and a red multifunction control wheel adds a contrasting accent. The chassis is CNC-machined, with stated dimensions of 255 × 188 × 68 mm and a weight of approximately 2.5 kg.
Digital Outputs for a Range of DACs
A wide selection of output interfaces allows the ET3 EVO to work with different external converters. Connections include USB, I²S, coaxial, optical and balanced AES/EBU digital outputs.
USB and I²S provide the transport’s highest supported output rates, reaching PCM at up to 32-bit/768 kHz and DSD512. The coaxial, optical and AES/EBU connections support PCM up to 32-bit/192 kHz and DSD64. Actual system configuration will therefore depend on the inputs and format capabilities of the connected DAC.

The player also includes All-to-DSD and All-to-PCM processing options, enabling digital conversion before the signal reaches the selected output. MQA support covers both full decoding, with PCM output at 176.4 kHz to any DAC, and MQA Core operation, which supplies PCM at 88.2 kHz to a compatible converter.
USB Files, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Playback
The ET3 EVO is built around an Ingenic X2000 platform and extends beyond physical disc playback. Files can be played from USB storage, while dual-band Wi-Fi enables network playback through DLNA and AirPlay.
Bluetooth 5.0 reception is also included, with LDAC, AAC and SBC codec support. These features allow the unit to operate as a central digital source for discs, locally stored music, network content and audio sent from compatible mobile devices.

Its USB file compatibility covers ISO, DXD, APE, FLAC, WAV, AIFF, DTS, MP3, WMA, AAC, OGG, ALAC, M3U and OPUS. DSD content is supported in .iso, .dsf and .dff containers. This broad format list positions the ET3 EVO as a multi-source digital player rather than a single-purpose disc mechanism.
Front-Panel Operation and System Positioning
A 320 × 290-pixel IPS display occupies the front panel, accompanied by the multifunction wheel and dedicated hardware buttons. Together, these controls provide local access to disc, file and playback functions without changing the ET3 EVO’s compact desktop form.
The combination of a top-loading CD mechanism, high-resolution digital outputs, removable-storage playback and wireless connectivity gives the ET3 EVO several possible roles. It can serve as a dedicated CD transport in a conventional separates system, a USB-based digital player, or a network source connected to an existing DAC.

Despite this flexibility, the signal path remains digital at the output. Buyers will need to pair the transport with a suitable DAC, integrated amplifier, preamplifier or another audio component capable of accepting one of its supported digital connections.
The ET3 EVO preserves the original model’s broad feature set while distinguishing itself through revised internal circuitry and updated industrial design. For systems already built around an external DAC, it offers one compact source for CDs, USB libraries, network playback and Bluetooth audio.
