MartinLogan has unveiled the Abyss line of subwoofers, which, in addition to the two active subwoofer series, Dynamo Foundation and Dynamo, offer a combination of compactness and high output.
The MartinLogan Abyss Active Subwoofers come with a compact design and an 8″ or 10″ hybrid driver system that combines an active aluminum cone driver with two aluminum passive radiators. This innovative design enhances bass performance, minimizes distortion typically found in ported subwoofers, and delivers tighter bass associated with sealed enclosures, all while maintaining a compact size.
The Abyss 8 active subwoofer utilizes a MartinLogan Magnitude 1kW amplifier, providing a peak power of up to 1,000W (500W RMS). In contrast, the Abyss 10 is driven by a Magnitude 1.6kW amplifier, offering an impressive 1,600W peak bass power (800W RMS). Both Abyss subwoofers feature a top-tier 64-bit 500MHz DSP processor. The latest model is constructed within a robust 1-inch thick MDF cabinet, which includes a central brace, reinforced baffles, and anti-vibration mounts for enhanced performance.
The MartinLogan Subwoofer Control app simplifies the setup process for both iOS and Android users. The MartinLogan Abyss subwoofer is equipped with a wireless receiver and transmitter, along with RCA and XLR LFE inputs, a stereo RCA input, a high-level input, and a Sub Out output for connecting multiple subwoofers. This model is compatible with the Anthem Room Correction (ARC) system, which automatically calibrates the sound based on the room’s acoustic properties.
The MartinLogan Abyss 8 powered subwoofer features an 8-inch driver and is available in either a piano black or satin white finish, with a suggested retail price of $1,199.99. In contrast, the larger MartinLogan Abyss 10 model, equipped with a 10-inch driver, is exclusively offered in piano black for a suggested retail price of $1,699.99. Both models from the MartinLogan Abyss series are set to launch in mid-October 2024. Additionally, the optional MartinLogan WSK-1 Wireless Subwoofer Connection Kit will be priced at $99.99.
