The LG S95TR stands as the premier soundbar from LG. This latest model features Dolby Atmos technology and an impressive array of 17 drivers. It incorporates a 9.1.5-channel audio system, which includes a soundbar, a wireless subwoofer, and two wireless speakers. When compared to earlier models, the LG S95TR enhances the surround sound experience with the inclusion of rear speakers. Visually, the LG S95TR is a refined iteration of the LG S95QR.
The soundbar is equipped with a total of ten drivers. The left and right channels feature two 20mm silk dome tweeters alongside two 52 x 99mm woofers. Additionally, a pair of 50mm drivers positioned at each end of the bar enhances the surround sound experience. Two upward-firing 63mm drivers broaden the soundstage, which is crucial for immersive audio formats. Centrally located is a 63mm driver aimed at the listener, paired with a 20mm tweeter. Unlike the other top-mounted drivers, this tweeter does not produce Atmos height effects; instead, it works in tandem with the front driver to enrich the overall soundstage, aid in sound dispersion, and ensure clear dialogue.
The wireless subwoofer has seen significant enhancements compared to earlier versions, with the driver size expanding from 18cm to 20cm. While the bass of the LG S95QR was previously lackluster, the new woofer design enhances both volume and overall bass quality. LG asserts that the average sound pressure level has risen by 5dB for both the subwoofer and the soundbar. This updated subwoofer undoubtedly presents a more refined and contemporary feel than its predecessors.
The speakers are advertised to have a range of 135 degrees. The LG S95TR satellites are notably broader than many competitors, which is logical given that they house two front-firing drivers. Each speaker features a configuration of three 63mm drivers, including two that fire forward and one that fires upward. As in previous years, the companion speakers are exclusively part of the premium LG S95TR package, meaning they cannot be purchased separately with any other LG soundbar.
The LG S95TR satellites have received an enhancement in Wi-Fi connectivity. This upgrade ensures a more stable connection to the wireless subwoofer and surround speakers. Additionally, the transmission distance has been extended from 19m to 30m, allowing for greater flexibility in speaker placement, regardless of the size of your living room.
The LG S95TR is equipped with Spotify Connect, AirPlay 2, and Chromecast capabilities. You can manage your streaming services, adjust volume levels, and switch sound modes through Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. For wired connections, the soundbar features eARC, optical, and USB digital inputs, along with two extra HDMI ports. These HDMI ports are compatible with gaming technologies like VRR (variable refresh rate) and ALLM (auto low latency mode). However, it’s important to note that 4K HDR signals are only supported at a maximum of 60 Hz. If you prefer a wireless setup, you can connect the soundbar to your TV using the LG WOWCAST audio dongle (sold separately), which enables lossless multi-channel audio and wireless stereo system connectivity.
There are a couple of key points to highlight. Firstly, LG could enhance its offering with the addition of more HDMI ports, as it currently only has two. Furthermore, the absence of HDMI 2.1 means that the soundbar does not support 4K at 120Hz for gaming. While there have been some advancements, such as VRR and ALLM, we believe that incorporating HDMI 2.1 would represent a significant upgrade for LG’s audio products. Additionally, Meridian Audio, a long-standing collaborator with LG, is introducing support for its Horizon technology in the LG S95TR. This technology allows for the upmixing of two-channel audio to 7.1 when the soundbar is switched to music mode.
As in previous years, if you buy a 2024 LG Soundbar and an LG TV, you can pair them to use Sound Share. This allows the TV’s more sophisticated software to give users new audio processing capabilities. The LG S95TR has a simple room calibration system built in. The system also offers users a variety of sound customization options with channel level and equalizer adjustments.
LG Soundbars incorporate recycled plastic in both their top and bottom sections, demonstrating the company’s commitment to environmentally friendly soundbar manufacturing. Each LG Soundbar is meticulously crafted to maximize the use of recycled materials. The polyester jersey fabric used in these products is certified by the Global Recycling Standard, confirming that it is produced from plastic bottles.
