SMSL DO400: DAC and headphone amplifier with Bluetooth

SMSL has introduced the DO400 , a powerful , high-quality DAC/headphone amplifier. It includes high-quality components such as the latest ESS ES9039MSPro chip, XMOS XU316 USB interface, 11 OPA 1612A and the latest generation Qualcomm QCC5125 Bluetooth chip. To complete the picture, the DO400 integrates an MQA decoder, allowing you to decode high-resolution audio streams up to PCM 32-bit 768 kHz, DSD512 and MQA-CD. The performance of the headphone amplifier is also very good due to the use of PLFC circuit. The DO400’s comprehensive and diverse connectivity options allow it to adapt to a wide range of configurations and input sources. SMSL has chosen an internal symmetrical design, and the exterior – a large screen and a number of small aesthetic details – makes this device pleasant to look at.

ESS ES9039MSPRO DAC chip
The DO400 uses a very high-performance ES9039MSPro DAC chip manufactured by ESS. This 32-bit, 8-channel chip is based on Hyperstream IV fabric technology. It allows the DO400 to decode up to 32-bit 768 kHz PCM and DSD up to DSD512. It also accepts MQA streams.

3rd Generation XMOS USB Interface
The DO400 integrates a 16-core XMOS XU316 USB interface that allows processing of high-resolution (PCM 32-bit 768 kHz and DSD512) streams through the USB-B input port. This may be an ideal solution for users who want to use a computer as a signal source. The interface interfaces with no less than 11 AOP1612A chips.

Bluetooth 5.1
Qualcomm QCC5125 chip allows SMSL DO400 to support AAC, SBC, aptX, aptX HD and LDAC codecs. So you can enjoy high-resolution files with wireless transfer.

High-Performance Headphone Amplifier
The front panel of the DO400 features three headphone outputs: a balanced 4-pin XLR output, a balanced 4.4mm jack output, and an unbalanced 6.35mm jack output. The headphone amplifier circuit is a 4-channel PLFC circuit with ultra-low distortion. It delivers over 2 W of output power with less than 0.0001% distortion into less than 16 ohms. The DO400 can therefore be adapted to all types of headphones thanks to its diverse connection options and high output power: 2x 6000 mW / 16Ω, 2x 3000 mW / 32Ω, 2x 700 mW / 300Ω and 2x 350 mW / 600Ω.

MQA Decoder
The DO400’s MQA decoder allows support for MQA-CD streams via coaxial, AES and optical Toslink inputs. Thus, this DAC allows you to enjoy professional sound quality, while the retransmission is as close as possible to the original sound recorded and edited in the studio.

Low Noise Power Supply
SMSL has specifically developed a regulated linear power supply for its DO400 DAC. This low noise power supply powers the DO400’s discrete components. There are also several low noise power supplies available for the analog portion of the DAC.

Remote Control
The DO400 remote control provides access to all basic functions such as volume control, play/pause/previous/next functions and input source selection.
