The Marantz CD5005 has several fundamental differences from the previous model with the index CD5004. Thus, the product received a more advanced DAC CS4398 from Cirrus Logic, which, with proper wiring, can provide decent sound quality. Also, the reliable transport mechanism CJDKT690 was borrowed from the more expensive CD6005 player. The device is equipped with a new improved remote control RC002PMCD. The transport mechanism is mounted in the center of the player’s chassis, thanks to which it was possible to level out the mechanical load on the body and make the design of the front panel more laconic. Under the disc tray there is a luminescent display with the ability to limit the brightness or turn it off completely.

The transport mechanism is mounted in the center of the player’s chassis, thanks to which it was possible to level out the mechanical load on the body and make the design of the front panel more laconic. Under the disc tray there is a luminescent display with the ability to limit the brightness or turn it off completely. The player plays CD-Audio discs, as well as CD-R/RW discs, including those with MP3/WMA files. Selected components are used in the player circuit, and a powerful shielded transformer is installed in the power supply. Separate voltage sources are provided to power the digital and analog circuits of the CD5005. To maximize sound quality, the Audio EX mode is provided, when activated, all auxiliary circuits are different – such as a digital output or adjusting the disk rotation speed. The symmetrical topology of the player circuits has significantly improved the quality of the stereo image by minimizing crosstalk.

Being an entry-level device, the new product cannot boast of many different interfaces. The analog signal is removed from a pair of gold-plated RCA connectors; a balanced connection is not provided in the device. There are also a pair of digital outputs – optical and coaxial. All connectors have gold-plated contact surfaces. In addition, the CD5005 features a high-quality headphone output connected to HDAM-SA2 buffer modules. The device is also equipped with connectors for the proprietary D-Bus remote control system.
