Gold Note PH-10: A modern, tightly built phono stage

Gold Note PH-10
Gold Note PH-10

Gold Note PH-10 is clad in an aluminum body and has a large OLED color display, as well as a gold logo on the front panel. The top and sides of the case have beveled ventilation cutouts, adding an element of brutality to the overall elegance. The Gold Note PH-10 looks quite harmonious, it is modern, tightly built, but at the same time there are no “flashy” elements in its image – simply put, it gives the impression of really high-quality, expensive handicraft work.

To ensure perfect sound quality, the new Gold Note PH-10 has many precise settings. Two separate pairs of RCA connectors allow you to simultaneously connect two tonearms with different pickups. The ability to separately adjust the parameters of each input ensures that the phono preamplifier perfectly matches the specifications of any cartridge.

After connecting the tonearm to the Gold Note PH-10, the user has the opportunity to choose one of 4 proposed gain options: -3dB, 0DB, + 3dB, 6dB, which allows the phono stage to match the output level of any MM or MC cartridge. In addition, perfect tuning is guaranteed due to the presence of 9 different load options – 10 Ohm, 22 Ohm, 47 Ohm, 100 Ohm, 220 Ohm, 470 Ohm, 1000 Ohm, 22 kW, 47K Ohm.

The Gold Note PH-10 displays all settings and changes on its 2.8-inch color display. All functions of the PH-10 are controlled using SKC’s patented Single Knob Control technology, designed as a multi-function rotary knob. Also on the front panel, to the right of the display, there is a single control knob. It is designed like a volume control and is called Single Knob Control. It is used to select and configure parameters.

On the rear panel there are: a power cable input and a power button, two RCA inputs for working with two tonearms, RCA and XLR outputs for connecting to various stereo amplifiers. In addition to them, there are also inputs at the back for connecting optional devices – a tube output stage and an external power supply. In addition, next to the power input there is a mini USB service connector.

Gold Note PH-10 allows you to select the resistance value (nine options), the gain level (four options), but the most important and “delicious” feature is the choice of one of five variations of the equalization curve provided by the device (American-Columbia, American-Columbia enhance, Decca-London, Decca-London enhance, RIAA). The presence of this function allows you to extremely accurately adjust the sound of the phono stage to a particular recording – owners of serious record collections will definitely be delighted.

Rapid obsolescence of the device is excluded due to the presence of a USB port in the device, which provides the ability to update the software. The phono stage can be powered from an external power supply built on the “dual mono” principle. The brushed anodized aluminum finish is available in 4 colors: black, silver, gold and red.
