Astell&Kern a&Futura SE200: The first multi-dac player

The world’s first multi-dac player, Astell&Kern A&futura SE200, has been presented . The SE200 is the first DAP to use DACs from two different manufacturers, ESS and AKM, in a single device. Independent amplifiers complement each DAC.

The world’s first multi-DAC DAP
A&futura SE200 is the world’s first Multi-DAC player. Since the release of the Dual DAC AK120 player in 2013, we have not seen a single product that has more features than the Dual DAC player has had in the last seven years. This prompted us to ask the question: “Why didn’t the player have more than two DACs?” So we decided to be the first manufacturer to use more than two DACs, resulting in the SE200.

The SE200 uses ESS’s latest audiophile DAC, the Saber ES9068AS, in a dual-DAC configuration. We then added one AK4499EQ, AKM’s flagship DAC, which is used in the SP2000 flagship DAC. By combining three DACs, we created the world’s first multi-DAC player.

This combination demonstrates the philosophy of the A&futura line, which is to achieve a fundamentally different sound than typical DAPs.

To properly implement multiple DACs, we needed to spend twice as much time on development and twice as much time on properly configuring the player.

Astell&Kern is not satisfied with remaining at the same level all the time. We are constantly working to improve what we have already achieved, namely to bring the most accurately reproduced and best sound to our products.

Independent AMP sections designed to match the characteristics of the DAC
The SE200 was designed not with a single AMP circuit, but with multiple, different AMP designs to optimize the different characteristics of the AKM and ESS DACs used in the player.

By separating the signals for each channel of Balanced and Unbalanced output, we designed independent circuits that do not interfere with each other to provide the best possible sound.
