Grado has introduced the Signature S950, a meticulously crafted over-ear headphone featuring open earcups constructed from Brazilian walnut. The Signature S950 exemplifies exceptional craftsmanship while incorporating cutting-edge technology, including sophisticated 52-millimeter drivers. The delivery of the Signature S950 is expected to commence in mid-March.
The Signature S950 represents the newest addition to the open-ear headphone lineup from Grado Acoustics, a company based in the United States. Unlike the aluminum used in the HP100 SE, the earcup housings of the Signature S950 are made from Brazilian walnut, resulting in a visually appealing and lightweight design that weighs just 395 grams. The designers assert that the Signature S950 offers a laid-back musical experience.
Grado’s Signature S950 is equipped with a 52mm S driver, initially developed as a foundation for the Signature HP100 SE (illustrated opposite). This updated version aims to produce a driver that achieves an exceptionally flat high-frequency response while minimizing distortion for accurate acoustic reproduction. Grado specifies a frequency response range of 3.5Hz to 51.5kHz, with a total harmonic distortion (THD) measurement of less than 0.1% at a sound pressure level of 100dB.
The driver features a paper composite cone, paired with a high flux magnetic circuit and a copper-aluminum voice coil. Grado asserts that the combination of the magnetic circuit and voice coil enhances the dynamic performance of the new headphones, providing a nuanced sense of space, soundstage, detail, and imaging. The sensitivity is rated at 115 dB at 1 mW, and Grado indicates a nominal impedance of 38 ohms.
The redesigned headband of the S950 ensures enhanced comfort, boasting 50 percent more padding compared to earlier models. Additionally, it includes a stainless steel band and adjustable-height temples, allowing for a personalized fit tailored to your preferences.
The latest Signature Series headphones feature a detachable cable measuring 1.8 meters, equipped with a 4-pin balanced mini-XLR connector. Additional cable options will be introduced in the future.
Shipping is anticipated to commence in mid-March.
