Campfire Audio has collaborated with multi-instrumentalist Alessandro Cortini of Nine Inch Nails to create a premium in-ear headphone known as Clara. This new model merges Campfire’s meticulous engineering with Cortini’s deep enthusiasm for sound, aiming to elevate audio quality for both music enthusiasts and professionals alike.
Cortini, the first Italian to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, has been an avid supporter of Campfire Audio products and has developed a strong connection with the brand throughout his musical career. He is experienced in collaborations, having partnered with artists such as Ladytron and stepping in for Morgan Nicholls during tours with the British band Muse. In collaboration with Ken Ball, the founder and chief acoustic engineer of Campfire Audio, they have designed an in-ear headphone that embodies Cortini’s artistic vision while remaining aligned with Campfire’s commitment to innovation.
The Clara incorporates a hybrid driver setup that merges innovative drivers with classic audio technologies, yielding a sound profile that is smooth, meditative, and exceptionally captivating, as stated by the manufacturer. Central to its audio performance is the newest version of Campfire’s dual-magnet dynamic driver, enhanced by the company’s sophisticated dual-diaphragm balanced armature midrange driver. The high frequencies are elegantly rendered through Campfire’s distinctive dual super tweeters, along with the brand’s proprietary Tuned Acoustic Expansion Chamber (TAEC) technology, which ensures an optimal soundstage and imaging.
Campfire Audio specifies that the Clara features a frequency response ranging from 5 Hz to 20 kHz, with a sound pressure level (SPL) of 94 dB measured at 1 kHz with 9.95 mVrms input, and total harmonic distortion of less than 0.3 percent. The impedance of the Clara is rated at 13.3 ohms at 1 kHz.
Customers purchasing the Clara will receive an assortment of premium accessories, which include Time Stream Duet cables (available in 3.5mm and 4.4mm), a Pilot Portable DAC Dongle, various ear tips made from different materials (Foam, Silicone, Final Type-E), and a selection of carrying cases and pouches, including a durable hard case.
