The flagship Audio-Technica ATH-AWKT headphones are a kind of reincarnation of the ATH-W5000 model, but its housing covers are made not of cherry, but of ebony, more precisely, its Japanese variety Kokutan. This wood has a very high density and therefore effectively damps resonances.
The Audio-Technica ATH-AWKT headphones feature exclusive 53mm drivers with high-efficiency German Permendur alloy magnetic circuitry that delivers exceptionally accurate sound with a wide sound field. The lightweight, durable titanium flange and 6N-OFC (high-purity oxygen-free copper) voice coil ensure precise diaphragm movement and signal transmission. Our exclusive Audio-Technica DADS technology. (Double Air Damping System) separates the cabinet design into two separate acoustic chambers, resulting in smooth and precise bass response.
The parts that hold the housings are made of lightweight, very tough magnesium alloy. The “handles” are angled to provide the best fit thanks to the excellent seal of the headphones. The comfortable fit is enhanced by smooth, durable sheepskin ear pads and headband.
The Audio-Technica ATH-AWKT headphones also feature A2DC (Audio Designed Detachable Coaxial) connectors for secure connection to two included 3.0m (9.8′) detachable cables. One cable features a gold-plated 6.3mm (1/4″) stereo jack for use with standard audio equipment. The other cable features a 4-pin XLRM balanced connector for use with the latest high-fidelity equipment to provide better channel separation.
The Audio-Technica ATH-AWKT combines refined sound quality with total comfort thanks to sheepskin leather ear pads and headband and magnesium alloy angled arms for a comfortable fit and superior passive noise isolation. The ATH-AWKTs feature A2DC (Audio-Designed Detachable Coaxial) connectors, and come with a pair of detachable cables: either a 6.3mm jack or a 4-pin balanced XLRM cable.
Like all new wood headphones, the Audio-Technica ATH-AWKT is handcrafted in its Tokyo factory. The ATH-AWKT earcups are crafted from rare Japanese Kokutan hardwood (striped ebony). Long used for woodwinds and pianos, this dense wood with beautiful black and brown stripes suppresses unwanted resonance for clear, natural sound reproduction. The hand-applied semi-gloss finish enhances the natural beauty of the wood – a beauty that will only deepen with age. In addition, the high density of Kokutan wood suppresses unwanted resonances, contributing to the clear and natural sound of the headphones.
