The Nu-Vista 600.2 serves as the successor to the Nu-Vista 600 (also refer to our review of the Nu-Vista 600). According to Musical Fidelity, the Nu-Vista 600.2 represents a far more substantial upgrade compared to the transition from the Nu-Vista 800 to the Nu-Vista 800.2 reissue, suggesting a comprehensive redesign of the integrated amplifier. Therefore, the Nu-Vista 600.2 is not merely a minor update.
This model is entirely analog and incorporates a dual mono architecture, a multi-array power supply, filtering for both the pre- and power sections, and a class-A tube stage utilizing the renowned NuVistor tubes. It boasts an output power of 160 watts per channel at 8 ohms, 300 watts at 4 ohms, and can reach peaks of 500 watts at 2 ohms.
The input switching integrated circuit found in the original Nu-Vista 600 has been substituted with relays in the Nu-Vista 600.2, enhancing separation and dynamic performance. Additionally, the designers assert that only premium polypropylene capacitors have been utilized throughout the signal path.
A notable enhancement in the 600.2 is the incorporation of Musical Fidelity’s laser-trimmed volume control, which achieves a gain error of +/- 0.5 dB, even at lower volume levels. Moreover, the brand indicates that the output stage, pre-amplifier, and NuVistor stage topologies have undergone significant revisions and improvements.
The preamplifier circuitry has been relocated from the rear panel PCB to a shielded tray positioned on the top of the unit. This redesign minimizes noise and distortion by shielding it from heavy current inputs. The Nu-Vista stage, inherited from the manufacturer’s PRE/PAS/PAM series, employs 6S51N NuVistors within a discrete Class A amplifier buffer on the newly designed top PCB layer.
The preamplifier, NuVistor, and input circuits have been upgraded to a fully dual mono configuration, featuring distinct power supplies for the left and right channels. Additionally, the Nu-Vista 600.2 operates solely on an SMPSU while in standby mode.
This redesigned layout enhances overall performance and includes a rear panel equipped with two balanced XLR inputs, suitable for connecting devices such as the Nu-Vista Vinyl and Nu-Vista DAC (refer to our review of the Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista DAC for more details). A balanced XLR preamp output has been introduced, and all line outputs are now individually buffered to prevent interference between devices linked to either preamp output.
Moreover, the unit provides four pairs of line-level RCA inputs and one pair of line-level RCA outputs. It also features two pairs of four-millimeter banana plugs/binding posts for added connectivity options.
Musical Fidelity is pleased to announce that the Nu-Vista 600.2 incorporates its Titan design, aligning it with the capabilities of its larger counterpart, the Nu-Vista 800.2, as well as the PRE/PAS/PAM product series. Each output device (transistor) is paired with a high-current bulk power supply capacitor, which facilitates more direct access to stored energy and significantly reduces impedance for energy flow. This enhancement results in improved transient response and better ripple filtering at elevated currents, particularly when combined with additional power supply capacitors located throughout the unit.
In terms of specifications, the Nu-Vista 600.2 has a weight of 36 kilograms and dimensions of 187 x 483 x 510 millimeters (H x W x D). Its chassis features a robust construction similar to that of the Nu-Vista 800.2, with front and side panels crafted from extruded aluminum profiles.
