The DB Series are the most advanced subwoofers ever produced by Bowers & Wilkins. Building on the legacy of the groundbreaking DB1 subwoofer, each of the three models features new digital technologies and materials derived from the award-winning 800 Series Diamond loudspeakers. All three models pack a punch, featuring Aerofoil cones and an all-new digital preamplifier section with Dynamic EQ. The Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB1D is the most powerful active subwoofer Bowers & Wilkins has ever produced, with the best bass performance yet. The built-in 2,000-watt amplifier delivers incredible levels of drive, authority and presence. The all-new digital preamplifier ensures the mighty subwoofer always delivers optimum power levels. It uses 12-inch (300mm) Aerofoil cone bass drivers, identical to those in the flagship 800 Series Diamond loudspeakers. Mounting them in an opposed, balanced configuration dramatically reduces cabinet vibrations and provides a cleaner, more precise sound. The result: fantastic bass without coloration.
Like all new DB Series subwoofers, the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB1D is incredibly easy to set up and operate, thanks to a dedicated mobile app available for both iOS and Android devices. The app provides placement, setup and troubleshooting guidance, and can also be used to control the output and audio mode presets. Room EQ lets you optimise the subwoofer’s sound for your room using your smartphone’s built-in microphone (no need for a separate setup microphone). The Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB1D is housed in a medium-sized cabinet made from thick MDF, and is available in piano black or natural wood (cherry or rosewood) finishes. It features two 300mm bass drivers with Rohacell cones operating in balanced mode, and has a Class D amplifier developing a maximum power of 1000 watts.
The subwoofer base contains a control system with a display and cursor buttons for menu navigation and setting changes. Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB1D has 5 memory cells with different sensitivity settings, input filter characteristics, graphic equalizer and room compensation; user settings for these parameters can also be saved in the device’s memory. The same buttons can be used to switch inputs. The subwoofer’s sound can also be adjusted using a PC – in this case, the connection is made to the RS232 connector on the rear panel of Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB1D using the included cable, and the B&W SubApp program must be running on the computer. Interestingly, the base with the display is rotatable – if desired, it can be turned 90 degrees relative to the rest of the body.
The Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB1D subwoofer features a balanced mono input, unbalanced inputs (stereo and for connecting to a special low-frequency channel output), two trigger inputs (regular and menu-controlled), an input for an external IR control system), and the already mentioned RS232 connector. In addition, the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB1D firmware can be updated via a separate USB input. The subwoofer is equipped with rubber feet and spikes – the choice of a specific option depends on the type of flooring in the listening room. Thanks to flexible sound settings, as well as high-class design, the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond DB1D can be used to sound almost any room.
