FiiO has introduced the AIR AMP, a compact streaming power amplifier designed to place network playback, digital conversion and speaker amplification in a single metal chassis. Intended for streamlined home audio installations, it can drive passive speakers while also accommodating local music storage, external sources and headphones.
A Three-in-One Approach to Compact Hi-Fi
The AIR AMP combines functions that would ordinarily be divided among a network player, DAC and power amplifier. This integrated design reduces the number of separate components and interconnects needed to assemble a system around passive loudspeakers.
Digital processing is built around an XMOS XU316 USB controller and an ESS ES9020Q DAC. FiiO has provided seven inputs and three outputs, although the full connector breakdown has not been detailed. Two input-sensitivity settings are also available, giving the amplifier additional flexibility when it is paired with different external sources.
The resulting format is aimed at desktops, shelves and smaller equipment racks where space may be limited. Its chassis measures 207 x 188 x 42 mm and is constructed from metal, with a silver finish specified for the product.

TI Class D Amplification Delivers 120W Per Channel
FiiO has based the AIR AMP's output stage on the Texas Instruments TPA3255 Class D amplifier chip. When used with the supplied 48V/5A power adapter, the unit is rated to deliver 120 watts per channel into a 4-ohm load.
Post-filter feedback, or PFFB, is incorporated to help stabilize the amplifier's performance when connected to speakers with different impedance characteristics. This is particularly relevant to an integrated product intended for use with a variety of passive loudspeakers rather than a single matched speaker design.
The external power supply connects through a DC 7909 socket. Keeping the power adapter outside the main chassis also supports the AIR AMP's low-profile dimensions while retaining the specified output capability.

Network and Local Music Playback
For network installation, the AIR AMP includes Gigabit Ethernet alongside dual-band Wi-Fi operating on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Ethernet provides a fixed wired option for permanent systems, while Wi-Fi gives owners more freedom when positioning the amplifier away from a network connection.
The component supports commonly used streaming protocols, though FiiO has not provided a protocol-by-protocol compatibility list in the available product information. Local libraries can be accessed from USB storage devices, portable hard drives and network-attached storage. Music selection for these libraries is available through the FIIO Control app.
This mix of network and attached-storage playback allows the AIR AMP to function as the central source component in a compact system. External devices can also be incorporated through its selection of inputs, avoiding the need to limit the setup to streaming alone.

App, Web and Remote Control Options
Users can operate the AIR AMP through the FIIO Control app, a web interface or the supplied infrared remote control. The software controls provide access to automatic EQ and a 10-band parametric equalizer, adding system-tuning options without requiring a separate signal-processing component.
The inclusion of both app and conventional remote operation should suit different installation styles. App and browser access can be used for library navigation and detailed adjustment, while the infrared handset provides direct control from the listening position.
FiiO includes the AIR AMP with its infrared remote, a power cable and the 48V/5A adapter. The device is indicated for sale through AliExpress, but no USD price, release date or broader retail availability has been specified.
With its network features, local file playback, built-in DAC and 120-watt-per-channel Class D stage, the FiiO AIR AMP is positioned as a compact hub for passive-speaker systems. Its broad control options and integrated EQ further reduce the need for additional hardware in space-conscious installations.
