Cambridge Audio CXUHD is a universal reference digital transport that supports 4K resolution (UHD), can play virtually any disc (including UHD Blu-ray, DVD-Audio, SACD, etc.) and can act as a network media player. An important feature of this device is the absence of a digital-to-analog converter on board, since, according to the developers, the built-in DAC introduces distortion and interference into the AV signal.

The Cambridge Audio CXUHD player features a superbly balanced, high-precision disk transport capable of fast loading and effective error detection/correction. The player has a powerful custom 4-core video decoder capable of working with codecs such as HEVC H.265, H.264, VP9 4K and Hi10P. HDR video is supported, as well as Dolby Vision, which is a variant of HDR with 12-bit color depth (up to 68 billion colors) and dynamic metadata. Via HDMI, the device accepts audio codecs such as Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD High Resolution and DTS-HD Master Audio, as well as three-dimensional sound formats Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The player provides upscaling of any video to UHD resolution.

The Cambridge Audio CXUHD looks great and has a sleek aluminum front panel. The design of the disk drive tray is interestingly implemented. Its front part is finished with darkened translucent plastic and goes well with the display below. At the rear of the case there are a pair of USB ports version 3.0, which support playing audio, video and viewing photos stored on flash drives and HDD. You can connect to a local network via a gigabit Ethernet port or dual-band Wi-Fi to play media files from computer libraries and servers.

There are two HDMI outputs, one of which supports the 2.0 specification and is capable of working with 4K UHD TVs, projectors and AV receivers of the latest generation, and the second HDMI 1.4, intended only for audio, is used for connecting to older models of AV receivers. There is an HDMI 2.0 input, which also supports UHD resolution and can work with streamers such as Chromecast, Amazon Firesticks and Apple TV. To connect to an external DAC or AV components with a digital-to-analog converter and decoders on board, you can use the player’s coaxial or optical output.
